After a good morning at the factory I caught the 13.13 train home.
Changing at Birmingham New Street, all went well until somebody jumped in front of the train at Tamworth......

Good job I'd taken MogMag and Motorsport.

Anyway I've been impressing old ladies again by giving up my seat on a very crowded replacement train.........

Presumably Dave this was a fatality?

Always sad to hear the reasons behind the tortured souls, but they create chaos. We had an arterial dual carriageway over a major interchange brought to a standstill for several hours recently as someone from the local hospital stood on the parapet..

Mind you, it probably wouldn't take that long to read Mog Mag..

Yes it was. All a bit sudden - as we went through the station at speed - maybe 90 - there was a judder and a noise from underneath as if we'd hit something solid. I was in the rear coach of four and we all felt it. The emergency brakes kicked in but it took about a mile to stop.
Then we had to await the Transport Police and Railtrack and a replacement driver. That took well over an hour, we had stopped in a remote location. Eventually we proceeded to Burton on Trent, and coincidentally the Cross Country maintenance site is on this stretch, so when we were all off, the train reversed to the depot and we saw the front end damage. The impact had shattered the headlamp unit and cracked the fibreglass moulding which covers what would have been buffers in the past. All around this damage was blood - a big mess.
So eveything was running an hour or more late - but I arrived home at 7.00!
I got through MogMag and MotorSport.............

Must be awful for the train driver .

Exactly, the fatality is out of it now, the poor driver has to live with this for the rest of his life, even though he is blameless and could do nothing top prevent it.

My daughter, who is 18, persuaded someone yesterday, who was sitting on the rails at Kingston station waiting for a fast train, not to kill herself. Talked her off the rails by saying she would sit with her and talk to her - which she did. Nobody else did anything- quite a shock for her.

Good for her. You must be very proud of her, that she stepped up to help someone in that way.

Indeed, you must be very proud of your daughter for doing the right thing when it really mattered and making a real difference, Neida!
I have been 3x times a passenger of a train that a poor soul used to end his or her life. These are very sad events, for those directly involed an for those indirectly involved and loved the victim.

You are right to be proud of your daughter, great job.

I understand people aren't in a good place to think rationally when they do this but this way really does have an impact on so many other people's lives.
