+1. She has my admiration and respect. Well done.

That is really an amazing and caring reaction Neil, as others have said you must be so proud of her.

I am - I think it's just been a little difficult to process, particularly for her.

The station staff were shouting at the girl on the rails about messing up people's train journeys - my daughter, on the other hand, was talking to her about wanting to live and that she'd listen to her problems if she got off the rails.

It could have been the most terrible scene - fortunately it wasn't.

People often commit suicide for what turns out to be very shallow reasons to most of us but they cannot see anything else but the very narrow situation they are in. Talking to someone who is aware of such situations can often make them realise that there is a world out there and they have so much to offer !

Apparently Tamworth is a suicide hot spot. I googled it last night and this one seems to be the third this year.
I really do feel sorry for the driver. I keep having a flashback to the vibration from the impact. It will be much worse for the driver, just doing his job.

I had a friend who was a train driver and it is one of the things that they really dread.

Someone correct me but some years ago a train driver on the East Coast line told me that most train drivers average 4 human collisions a year.
He said it was part of the job. One of his worst was when someone jumped from the train just as another was coming from the opposite direction. They got "rolled" down 2 carriages.
These incidents are a lot more common than we like to think.
Poor souls thank goodness for the Samarirans.

I remember Jeremy on here saying that when he did his training not so many years ago there was 5 or 6 in the group and they were told that during their career on average each driver has 3 people who jump in front of them and one of his colleagues from the group has already had two.

Yes, this is my territory...

When I started 14 years ago, on Day 1 we were told that we would be responsible for killing TWO people each during our careers as Drivers.

So far, my group of 6 have had two and a foot (person jumped 'too early', fell under train and had foot sliced off by rear bogie), so we have got away 'lightly' given our combined 84 man-years in the cab.

One Swansea driver has an entire football team plus sub (incl 7 in one go - not suicides but a track gang with asleep look-out, which affected him the most).

Three others I know have just had one. And never driven again.

Neilda - a hug for your daughter from me please, on behalf of the driver who had a good day yesterday instead if a dreadful one.

My respect goes out to the Clean Up Team - they collect the bits and hose down the rails/platforms/trains. NOT a job I could do, for any money.

Worryingly, for the first time ever, our computer system has pre-booked me off sick for a week, starting 13 June. A week is the minimum "off" time after a Sui. I'm now concerned about my duty on 10th now. I am of course hoping that this is some computer glitch and NOT a premonition by the computer.
