Correct me if I am wrong but did you not used to get the princely sum of £5 and a day off? TIA £800 these days (one off only : numbers 2, 3 etc are f.o.c) and the week / "when you're ready Drive". Fortunately have not received "the payment". Yet. Cheers

My daughter, who is 18, persuaded someone yesterday, who was sitting on the rails at Kingston station waiting for a fast train, not to kill herself. Talked her off the rails by saying she would sit with her and talk to her - which she did. Nobody else did anything- quite a shock for her. What a courageous daughter you have Neil you must be fiercely proud of her seeing the serious trouble her fellow human being was in and not worrying about the mundanity of getting home late etc. What a great example to us all  .

I must also say (sadly due to personal experience of suicide) these people do not have the ability to consider if what they are doing will inconvenience others. They are looking for a way out of this world and often take the easiest route. The "black dog" of depression is an evil thing and ruins lives.

Well, fate is a strange old girl....
I was asked to come in later yesterday, to cover a later 'turn'; I refused because it finished after midnight (and I turn into a werewolf at that dreadful hour).
A Late turn driver agreed to come in earlier to cover the work. His 19.22 Worcester train killed a person who jumped at Didcot.
So he now has the test of the week off - going into his annual leave week, which I doubt he'll enjoy much.
I'm not guilty that I didn't accept the turn but I do feel great sympathy for driver Neil.

When you see him next please pass on my best wishes. Feeling the impact and follow up from the fourth coach was bad enough. It must be a rotten experience from the cab.
