Anyone on here on there..?

Can you explain what the point is..?

Most people I know use it as a stilted Farcebook & simply join to get nosey. Has it proved successful for anyone or is it just A N Other thing to take your time and potentially your pocket money.

I believe its usefulness is for people looking for work. I originally created an account in order to get the contact details of some of the I.T. contractors I was working with.

Mine was one of the accounts that got hacked due to their insecure systems a few years ago so I deleted my account. (Apparently the hacked account info has recently been openly for sale and I have noticed spam coming to my old linkedin email address).

An other useless "social media" data collector.
It may be useful when looking for a new job and ome could present lots of connections but in my real world business I did not find it important or supportive.
(It's complicated to get everything deleted once you were in)

Same here lots of junk purporting to be them but I closed the account 2 years ago now.

I thought it was really for nosey people to be honest and left after 3 months, I'm not interested what people do for a living per se.

I'm on it, sort of by accident and lots of Morgan celebs are on it. But it's not much use.

I'm on it and have linked to a few customers but then I get requests to link in with my suppliers who I keep at a bit of a distance and tend to ignore as I don't want them knowing who my customers are

It is quite good to keep in touch with individuals who move to different organisations

I'm on mostly to be able to contact older colleagues.
Prefer it above facebook, which I thought was very noisy, complicated with settings and a constant nag.

We use it very heavily in the office in the office (IT Industry)

If you are aiming to contact specific customers you will usually find them on there and can then go about trying to infest their lives with your products. They have an enhanced mode called navigator which allows you to build a company wide LinkedIn Massive in the words of Ali G.

Also use it to find new staff, the "if you like him then you might like him" works well. There is a recruiter angle to it as well. You can search profiles if they are correctly filled in.

It is becoming a little like a business twitter with lots of boring marketing by another name posts clogging it up. Far less annoying than fuzzbook and twatter from a business point of view though.

Our HR team use it to find out if you are employable. Compare the CV you send in to it. It is amazing how people forget to make these things line up. Also look at FB and Twit to see if you are a hazard to yourself or society never mind your new company! One of our Swedish team was constantly posting photos with him and his kids during week days. He didn't last long.

It can also be handy when looking for jobs.

There are a lot of privacy settings that should be investigated.

I agree with Alistair...very useful for business professionals. I use it to investigate companies and find contacts among them. In one recent case I was having a lot of issues with a supplier engaging with us. I used LinkedIn to find the UK CEO, sent him an InMail and bingo the next day they are all over us helping....

It is also useful for tagging contacts...but like an electronic business card library...

Job seeking I have used in the past...but here I have a word of caution. I as recently "added" by a number of recruiters...they're looking to offer me jobs I thought...not at all. In fact they were harvesting my contacts for people who matched what they needed. SO now I have blocked all but a few recruiters who have helped me in the past....

I must admit though, if your're retired I simply would not see the point of joining it all......

From proper business friends on Linkedin, there appears to be little B to B introductions with it but some people find it helps in the IT Industry.

Where most consultants like myself win is it is a place to publicise your CV.

I took early retirement from a Major Oil Company in 2010.

Every project I have landed in the past 6 years has come via a Linkedin contact.

In the UK it is mainly a CV store for consultants and agency workers rather than a proper business tool.

Therefore I think it has been great to find work and to keep up with old work colleagues, others who post here, who are not consultants consider it of little use.
