I sold my business today. Money has changed hands!

The second business I have started from scratch and now sold.

So retirement is within sight.

I feel a mix of elation and apprehension!

I had my first proper paid part time job at 14 - this was to save for my Lambretta ( £27.5!!)I have not stopped working since!

So at almost 68 its time for new horizons ..and adventures.
The list of things to do is growing.

But very near the top is driving the Mog more!!

Cheers- the drinks are on me!

I'm not quite ready for full blown retirement........

I need to get some dosh for this new car.

Mind you, ten days a month is manageable. Not that I'm rubbing it in! Even though I am..........

Congrats!! A big step and at times a bit scary. For me the hardest part is taking money out of the savings, instead of putting money in. But it is all worth it. Highly recommended and much more time for important things like Morgans.

Congratulations, I stopped 8 years ago at 55 and don't regret a second of it. Became bored sat at home so after 8 weeks got a part time job driving a local schools mini bus and had a great 3 years with the kids working 20 hours a week, then the cut backs so 6 months at home before a full time post redesigning and delivering child protection training, out of my comfort zone (I knew the training bit just not the child protection bit) so that fired up the grey cells. After that heavily into Morgan work....as in 5 days a month on average.....thing is Neil something always needs doing.

I discovered also that it's absolutely true that 'Work expands to fill the time available'.....I can spend an entire morning changing a set of spark plugs if I need to ;-).

Good for you Neil.....at 68 (and having worked for so long) I think retirement should be 'staring you in the face' not just 'in sight'.

Mark B makes a valid point about savings and spending.....having saved money on a regular basis all my life I still haven't got my head around the idea that I can now spend it without feeling guilty and still worry about spending capital that I know will take a lot longer to replace than when I was working. But as SWMBO says 'What on earth did you save it for, if not to spend it at some stage?'. A valid point perhaps but old dogs find new tricks a bit of a challenge....

The good news is that you already know how you can occupy more free time....enjoy!

Exactly the emotion I went through after stopping work, I had just bought a new +4 4 seat and after a year stopped work. From that point it sat in the garage largely unused as I felt guilty spending 'our' savings on myself for days out in the car.....then I felt guilty have all that cash tied up in something unused so I sold it. Terrible decision, Mogless for 9 months, then my father died and while not exactly a condition of his will left a note saying 'tell that miserable Bugger to stop moping about and buy another Morgan'....my sister and brother loved that, so typical of the old chap, so I bought the current +4 and enjoy every second with it. Even our kids say it's your savings you should not be planning to pass it on to us.
