Hello all, we are having a trip to Ireland very soon and was wondering if there was anything especially interesting to see/do? Car shows, museums, to do with automobiles are an interest. I have been told we will see enough old churches/castles so just looking for something a bit different. Suggestions of places to stay and eat welcome as well. I would have liked to get across to visit the Morgan factory but I think time constraints won't allow at this time. We will be hiring a car and have three weeks ,so hopefully will get around most of the island. Never going to see every thing but I would imagine a lot of you have been and done Ireland. Thanks in advance

Ring of Kerry was always mentioned when I asked Google for interesting sites.
It's on my schedule for next year - but I'm a tourist than without any local experience.

Visited one recently Aus - worth a visit - seems to be an extension of the owners home. A private collection built up over 40 years.

A bit sad in that most of the cars are basically just decaying in the place they were parked decades ago.

Randall - what type of thing do you wish to see - we have a huge range from scenery - the ring of Kerry can be very busy in summer( relative, I know, NOT Like Cornwall, but busy for us!!) the whole of the West coast is really nice there is a dedicated "Wild Atlantic Way" - Google it - worth doing at least a bit. The north east coast of Antrim is spectacular Giants Causeway etc..
There are a host of attractions in most towns ranging from replica famine ships to tapestries etc - you will find them on Tourism Ireland web site.
As to places to stay it depends on your budget, but, if going in July or August, you should book ahead.

Ireland is a little bit like NZ in that its was a mainly agricultural country so no car factories or museums showing numbers of Irish built cars. No doubt there were a few in the early days when car building was a cottage industry, but the only recent one I can think of was the DeLorian when the British government anxious to support NI in the terrorist era got taken to the cleaners by a Yank "entrepreneur" .

If you go to Belfast there is the shipyard that built the Titanic and museums to go with that.The modern Irish economy is very much office / industrial unit based so not for sightseeing..

But mainly touring Ireland is about scenery and Guiness and Irish culture - and rain.

Randall, my mother in law lives in Ireland. I should avoid going if I were you.....too great a risk you might bump into her.

We went last June, drove the Wild Atlantic Coast from Connemara to Kinsale.....lovely country, lovely people, lovely pubs in the evening with lovely Guinness...lousy weather...there is a reason why it is so green.
