That's because the Merc is designed to dispatch 1000km as easily as 100km.
The Morgan dates back to the days when own lunatics drove 1000km at a time (usually delivering care overnight to Geneva). The 2 can't be compared - after all what is the future value of Plus4 vs the Merc (ignoring liquidity!).
You buy a Morgan with your heart.

Heresy I know, and I would never go through with it, but couldn't help thinking about the price comparison with a £42k poverty spec Plus Four for this new Merc. A good comparison and a nice car but I doubt it'll be worth £5K in 10 years time !!!!

^^^^ agree. 10 year old Mercs are either used by: - losers - has bens - bankrupts - tasteless people - or sons and daughters of old gits that gave the useless old banger for them to trash around and are worthless. Whereas 10 year old Mogs are either used by - awesome people - or impressively awesome people. And kept their value too. EDIT - 40 year old Mercs are good too. But to keep a car hidden between the 5th and the 40th anniversary is too much to ask  EDIT2 - Sorry if anyone here has a 10 year old Merc. For every rule there are exceptions

You buy a Morgan with your heart. I disagree, the two can be compared if the comparison is about how do you spend your spare cash and which toy do you go for. Not all of us can afford a fleet of cars, I for one can only afford one such toy and therefore it has to give a return, its true that return can be emotional as in the case of the Mog (mostly) but I believe MMC takes advantage of the (blind) faith held by many of us especially when it comes to basic equipment/comfort and reliability issues.

Maybe Henry could give an opinion on the price rise.
How are car sales moving?, there seems to be quite a few
cars that have been stood on the Morgan car locator web site
for a long time. (unless of course the site is lagging)

At least it makes the dealer new stock more of a bargain against new bespoke, and it boosts residuals, so unless you want a new one today it's a win win?
