Thats a good point.
imagine if they had announced an 8% price reduction. Ok not likely in a month of sundays but that would hit residuals hard and upset those dealers sitting with stock.

Brexit is triggering a negative effect. Uncertainty is causing people to be very cautious, both individuals and businesses. If MMC forecast a slowing down of sales then the rise will help keep turnover/profits at what they think is ok. There will still be people with enough disposable income to indulge at higher prices, albeit fewer. It could be a balance of trade-off of volume versus profits with what they are projecting sales forecasts. An analogy with tobacco tax revenue....still rose for years despite punitive tax. The hardcore kept buying. This and the value of the £ are a difficult combination to manage.

The good lady has been rumbling on about a new G plan 3 piece suite for about 6 months now and I have to look reluctantly at catalogues and samples zzzzzz. Anyway I stormed her tonight and said I hope you have put that deposit down before the prices start going up - well that did the trick lots of cider and plane magazines came back from the Sainsbury run this evening... We all know who won but I don't mind she's happy and it's time to buy British whenever you can .

I'm assuming from the email at the start of this thread that my already ordered car won't be affected, for me it would make the difference between cancelling or not.

I wouldn't have thought so you have made a deposit and signed a binding agreement with them for a set price.
The very reason I'm getting the good lady to sign up for the suite tomorrow as it's binding.

I'm sure that's the case, although I remember that many years ago when the waiting list was years you put your £250 down and paid whatever the going rate was six or seven years later. In my case, yes I have paid a deposit both of some cash and a car with a balance to pay.I was assured that was the final figure at the time, although I was also assured there was never a price rise at this time of year!

At least it makes the dealer new stock more of a bargain against new bespoke, and it boosts residuals, so unless you want a new one today it's a win win? Was thinking the same and with an "end" to four seaters I will shortly be buying a small island somewhere

Because they're taking the f**king pi55. Thats why. I have made the point for some time that MMC seem to have become deluded into believing they're a big time car manufacturer.
THEY'RE NOT.
They're very firmly a tiny, niche, odd ball, cottage industry building over priced, out dated museum pieces for nostalgia freaks and people with more money than sense.
( I totally associate myself with all those character traits)
£40k for a 4/4……….. £50 for a +4…….. (with basic spec) Come on. Get real.
For years now the production process has become more and more 'streamlined'!! They're been making the damn things for 100 years, they should be able to do it fairly well by now for gods sake!!
I refuse to believe that they're not making profit on the cars. If they're not then they really should give it up!!!
Get rid of managers get rid of the 'design team' reduce production increase quality
