Maybe they simply had to address the state of their financial position and had no choice?

As has been said good for residuals for fortunate existing owners..
glad I bought when I did..also "lucky" to have a galvanised chassis model...who knows maybe this factor will also help with residuals in future !!!

Not good news at all, I always feel a Morgan should be sensibly priced to ensure they attract more customers, promote the brand and keep the wheels turning as such to protect the finances.

I do worry that most "average" people wouldn't touch a Morgan with a barge pole, even when looking for a fun weekend car - and that is a shame. Those that would be tempted might be put off if the price ends up being nearly 40k for a base model.. you can buy some serious machinery new for that.

In a few years the cheapest Morgan will be out of reach of many, and I fear this is catastrophic as any good business model must look at who its future customers are going to be.

In my opinion the 3 Wheeler should always try to stay circa 30k (or less), it has been well received and really made the Brand cool/desirable to many who never heard of Morgan before..

I mean the Caterham Seven 160 is £15'995 new...

Double whammy for (what I suspect) is the main target market....the cost of toys go up whilst pensions go down.

Perhaps the cost of Ash wood has gone up as a result of Ash Dieback Disease?

Almost certain to mean £500/year road tax for a 4/4 from 01/04/17 !

Sadly it is beginning to look as if Mr Honda's prediction regarding surviving manufacturers will be proved wrong.

That really is a heck of a difference, isn't it?

I know the Caterham is in a slightly different class from Morgan however, a new Caterham for £16,000.00 is brilliant value even if it is the very basic one. We certainly pay a lot for our wood and leather.

I agree with many of these comments, I personally couldn't justify (to myself) a new Morgan at current prices, as someone said, you can get an awful lot of car for £40k+ A dealer I know said to me before the latest round of increases that in their opinion Morgan's are now too expensive for what they are and are now for 'those that really want them' only. New Jaguar F type from just over £50k for example versus a Plus 4....Shame as it won't attract new market to the brand but I suppose those of us who already own will see good residuals continue, every cloud.

Just about to do a new valuation on mine as its needed doing for a couple of years . Even an old one if damaged has to pay the new full price for parts .
