Yes, four-seaters are like that with their multiple-hinged frame and acres of fabric. Three minutes to put mine up and locked, but fifteen/twenty minutes to fold it back (top two folds out; bottom fold in - just like Shaun at Allon White told me), tuck in the sides and stow it neatly under the hood cover.

Purely a personal view, but as I run all the time with hood down and sidescreens (x4) off I am reluctant to pre-arrange trips precisely because of the dilemma you are facing. Decision time usually about 8am - going to be a dry day? Great, let's go!

If there is anything pre-arranged that I have to attend and it looks like rain, then I have found hood up and sidescreens off gives reasonable protection; the outer fringe of the hood approaches the horizontal position and channels water outwards - and it looks better than an asymmetric appearance, I would have thought.

Thanks interesting

I've never driven mine with hood up and sidescreens off

I should have added that, in that configuration, on the back seats I take the sidescreens in their bag - or I use a cockpit cover - for overnight parking.

Also be aware that with hood up and sidescreens off the hood acts as an air scoop and may put strain on the fixing "lobes" at the rear quarters. After a continental trip of some 1200 miles running like this (admittedly c.80mph on autobahnen where it is impossible to stop to erect the hood if it rains) a bit of re-stapling was necessary.

To combat this on p.42 of the December 2014 issue of Miscellany there was an article describing a through-flow ventilation modification (acknowledgement to Rod Bentley) which looks a good alternative to a zip-out back window.

Stewart......
Take an umbrella to put up when you stop.....this saved me in Mumbles a couple of years ago when at the lights! Got some smiles from passers by .....
As for a "cape", have a look at disability scooters for accessories. My dad had one and he used a clear cape that fitted and had a hood built in. It covered both him and handlebars and, being clear, he could see his controls. You might be able to modify one.
But.....just think of the "look"!
You might look like a condom..... nono

That is actually not a bad idea! I'll pop out to the disability shop this aft to see what they've got that I could adapt

Good point about the umbrella as well - I'll keep one handy if I have to stop in heavy rain

It reminds me of driving back from Morgans at Windmere.
Hood down on the M6 the sky went black.
The other half says better stop at Charnock Rishard services and put the hood up.
I just answered it will be fine .
Within 10 minutes the heavens open it was so hard the traffic had to go down to 5 to 10 miles an hour!
It was like being in a power shower. Lucky 8 came to a bridge and I know you are not supposed to stop unless in a emergency but is drowning classed as one.
She was not happy!
