Thanks everyone - some excellent advice given.

Worth checking the rubber fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump, it is prone to perish on older cars, plus check the inner steel wings for surface rust under the powder coating, easily treated though.

Which one did you buy?

I have an Optimate 6 trickle charger which is connected always if the car is left more than a day as it helps prolong battery life.

Dehumidifier is essential for keeping bright work shiny, and preventing rust elsewhere, it is also better for keeping wiring dry etc.
A good indicator of this is whether or not your brake discs show a bit of surface rust over winter - if they do the garage is far too damp.

I try to keep mine at 60% RH all year around, and even in the summer this is not possible without a dehumidifier.

For winter storage you can pump up the tyres to protect them from flat spots, or buy tyre "shoes" which you park on.

Just run some power to the garage not expensive.

What is the distance including going down from the house fuse box and add on the distance to the garage what size is the garage.

You should be able to do it for about say £200 and that sorts a lot of problems.

Although I certainly agree that getting mains power to the garage is something that should be highly recommended, I think you may be being a bit optimistic here Eddie - have you seen the price of SWA lately?

Remember also that work like this has to be certified and inspected, and if it involves replacing the consumer unit - to add a new RCD/MCB for example - then the whole house has to be inspected, and any deficiencies must be fixed before work can be done.

We found this out when we had security lighting installed, I nearly had a heart attack when the electrician told us he had to test the wiring in the house first. Not normally a problem, but in our ancient cottage, that had been rewired more than 40 years previously, it was a different matter. Fortunately the wiring passed, so we were ok.
