Hi there
does anybody know if the safety devices roll bar will fit under a 4/4 hood.
If not if anyone has any other makes that do it would be appreciated.

My Librands one fits under the hood ok...2002 Plus8. It comes with a bolt on bar to fit 4point belts if desired.
It can be swopped for a track compliant upper part but that doesn't fit under the hood.
I don't think a fully compliant FIA bar would fit due to geometry regulations.
Do you want a bar for racing or just peace of mind?

Ihave a safety devices roll bar tha fits under the hood.The car is a 79 +8 with three stays for the hood.

Probably better to talk to Techniques. I had the Morgan Aero-Racing double diagonal roll bar on my AR Sport Competition and it was too inconvenient for normal road use. In fact it was probably unsafe without wearing a helmet and it made access to the limited luggage space even more difficult.

It depends which roll bar, the year of your car, and therefore what hood type you have, and what you want the roll bar to achieve. I had a Librands roll bar on my last car and it fitted well under an easy fit hood but wouldn't have been compliant with race regs, which is why Librands offer a higher roll bar if you intend to compete. At the time I had this fitted the safety device roll bar wouldn't fit under the hood but was race compliant. After I had the Librands bar fitted Techniques introduced a roll bar that fitted under the easy fit roof although whether it is high enough to satisfy race regs I don't know.
Basically if it's for road use the Librands or Tecqniques bar should be ok but for racing you need a higher roll bar which almost certainly won't fit under the hood.

I have had a Safety Devices rollover bar fitted to my car for years. It has the old style, non Easyup hood.

I modified the middle hoop by extending the pivot area and making slots so that the hood could be extended over the rollover bar when erecting the hood. Once the middle hoop was over, it simply slides back to its original position.

It's a simple modification; cut the bottom of the hoop each side when the pivot is and weld an extension, redrill the pivot hole and extend it by about half an inch.

If you want specifics, let me know and I'll send measurements and photos.

Sorry I should have been clearer it will only be for peace of mind, although I want a structural one rather than a cosmetic roll hoop if that makes sense.

Sorry I don't know what the easy up hood is to be honest but my car is a 2000 4/4 and the roof has poppers and clips rather than some I've seen that don't.

The Safety Devices roll bar replaced the middle hood support on a 1972 4/4 I had. Usual issue of crash helmet being too high solved in my case by fitting the carbon fibre seats made for a Lotus 7.

The Librands on my car is just high enough to be above my head height. My seat is lowered by removing the wooden spacer between it and the floor, this being done for my preference not to suit the rollbar. I prefer the slightly lower seat height.
It fits on a frame bolted to the chassis and wheelarch through the rear shelf area. The hoop and triangle support bolt onto this base frame and can be removed easily if needed...12 bolts I think.
Fitted by Lawrie at Williams in a day and a half.
The base frame slightly impairs space for luggage but not really an issue unless you have fitted Hills Alive bags! Modified Hills Alive can be obtained.
A good decision to fit....peace of mind plus a stiffened rear end.

How many hoops do you have in the hood frame, it varies?
