I saw that and wondered what the scrap weight value would be for that much copper, I think he must mean 0.003" 3mm plating would make the metal 6mm plus OE metal thick which is daft.

Definitely NOT 3mm!
.003 more likely. The copper allows the chrome to adhere better than straight onto aluminium. A bit like primer when painting. You then have a choice of grades of chrome and can pay more for these and a thicker plating. Due to the hazardous nature of chroming solutions there has been a move to nickel plating over recent years.

Tim I am only going on what people tell me its not my profession if they lie to me then its what I was told maybe the bloke in the place did not know. it was in the red light area of M/brough not the place you stand about to long chatting even in the yard. I had my MGB front bumper re chromed in Sheffield in 1990. I wasn't offered any options and it cost more than a new one. Although by then the new ones weren't up to much. When I asked the plater if there was a guarantee he just looked at me and pulled a face.

I'm pondering over having a set of full bumpers fitted to Nero.

You've not reached that age where you use bumpers to find out where the end of the car is? You'll be wanting to move to Budleigh Salterton next.

As a follow up to my original query, I didn't find anyone to refurbish my alloy bumpers, although Simon of Sifab offered to have a look and see what he could do.
The question is now redundant, as I find out that such bumpers ARE available and I now have a set in my garage courtesy of Melvyn Rutter.
The new ones look fabulous ( and so they should!)

My one regret in specifying the 4/4 is that I went for over-riders instead of bumpers. The bumpers protect the wings against shopping bags and zips on boots when the car is parked. I have noticed that when I nip into the garage for something I often rub against the front wings - OK when I have clean trousers on but not so good when wearing wellies.

You need a armoured vehicle to stay safe from Budleigh drivers.

That's why I'm armouring up Nero.....in readiness for a trip down south sometime!
