Has anyone had experience of this paint protection product please?

I am buying a new everyday car and the dealer is flogging this product.

I am assuming it is some form of glaze available at an expensive sterling equivalent of £1,122. Reviews online are few and far between and not very helpful.

The dealer is offering a similarly priced interior protection which makes me wonder if Scotchguard is effective on leather?

Most of these things are a dealer pocket enhancement exercise!

There are some things that do work well when professionally applied and for a typical car would cost £400-500.

As Shooter says, it's largely a money making exercise for the dealer.

I don't doubt there are reputable products, but if I was buying a new car, I'd speak to a local detailer. A few hours work by them, applying their favoured products ought to both work out cheaper and give a far better and lasting shine.

My local detailer offered to to do the job for less than £150

I think Supagard and the like are ok for relatively short term shiney look - but they fall far short of their claims and and are heavily caveated!And you end up with a very expensive Bag of spay on products most of which you not need or can buy very cheaply!

A good commission earner I guess!

I'd always pass on any dealers paint protection schemes. I wouldn't trust dealers to do it properly anyway, we always ask for our cars not to be cleaned when they go in.
Your better off doing it your self or getting a local professional as said to do a better job for a fraction of the cost.

you can apply the self healing almosy invisible plstic fils for a lot less than that. Got a quote for my toy car at £890 and I have no doubt that cost is inflated.

Up until March this year I have always stayed away from the paint protection schemes offered by dealers on new cars. This year I bought a Disco Sport and the deal was done with a heavy discount on Supaguard.
I have not been happy with it and at the beginning of this month, I took the car back for the stuff to be reapplied. A bit early to say if the product is any better second time around.
I would not pay for it again.

I have had much better results in the past from Collinite, which takes a bit of effort to apply and buff off. However more recently I have been very pleased with Meguiars "Paint Protect" which was very easy to apply and keeps the black bodywork clean and shiny.

Stay well clear, I worked in a few dealers years ago and it is utter rubbish, its bought in for about £10 and is basically cheap polish - most of the time its not even applied.
Autoglym is far better, the only stuff that occasionally worked (if applied) was the fabric protector - but you can buy that yourself for sod all.

I would not put any form of paint protection glaze on a car whether from a dealer or not. I was talking with a car detailer and virtually all these products create a rock hard seal on the paint, in fact so hard that you cannot remove even with a machine buffer. Great you might say it will mean my paint will not get damaged by contaminants and so on, yes maybe. But there is a big downside if the paint gets chipped, scratched, or minor ding then you cannot do a touch up repair yourself, reason is paint will not take properly and will rub off. The whole panel will need to be rubbed back down with wet and dry, primed and re-painted. Personally I think that there is no substitute for using good quality polish and gentle cleaning regularly.

Get a couple of quotes from good local detailers. As outlined they are usually a profit exercise for most large dealer chains. In general they sub them out to local detailers anyway. 50% of it will go to the dealer and 50% to the man-in-a-van that actually does it in the dealers car park.
