This post of Jays seems to show the same extension on a three wheeler. Maybe if you PMed him he'd ask for you? If I wasn't away I'd nip round to the factory and do it myself.

Reminds me of my old Ford Thames, that used to do the same, a quick whack on the levers cured it for the next few months.

Wow ! You've done 55 000km ! Must be about 5 years you've had the car now. Kudos.

Sorry to hear about the problem. Unless it's an obvious linkage issue, for me that would be a definite job for the dealer. Taking gearboxes apart is definitely above my pay grade.

Thanks Giles. We picked up the car 20 March 2012 at the Factory. Since that time we have returned to the UK 3 times, been to Spain and Portugal, and several tours in France, not to mention multiple trips in Italy and the latest to Sicily. We still have a fair list of places to go smile

That does not sound good news, at least you were quite near home.

If you look at the Vitesse Ltd web site the GB is shown without the extension part. So is the extension a non Mazda part? As Vitesse claim to be "partners" with Morgan did they make the extension?

Thanks for the heads up on this John.

I contacted Vitesse this morning and as the person I needed to talk to was out of the office it was suggested that I send an email. I therefore sent an email with a reasonably detailed description and this evening I received a reply. Based on my description the most probable cause has been identified a being in the remote extension housing on top of the gearbox. This can be removed by removing four bolts and can be replaced on a exchange basis.

It seems a similar problem has occured on one occasion in the past and construction methods have been changed to ensure it does not happen in the future. Most likely my gearbox is a fairly early unit that was built before the changes were implemented.

All I have to do now is remove the gearbox cover, something that I hope I can do without too much difficulty.

Vitesse have proven themselves to be very serious, correct and prompt in their after sales service and support. A rarity in this day and age which is to be applauded.

Best of luck with removal of the trans cover, Peter. Hope you'll be back on the road soon!

Cheers!
