I have never been happy with the sometimes difficult gear selection on my Roadster.

Is the the sideways play around the pivot enough to cause this do you think - are there any spacer or shim kits available I was thinking Nylon or Tufnol would be a good slidey spacer to take up the slop

See Video

Also how come there are two pivot holes is this for differing gear boxes?

In the area where the upper hole is located I managed to slide m10 washer about 1mm thick either side it seemed to help I wonder if nylon penny washers could be an option?

Seems a bit sloppy...seems to me it needs taking to bits and re-building with the slop taken out....bit like my new employer....

My roadster can be a real pig to get into 1st sometimes. Is that the sort of problem you have. It is also very clunky generally. I was told originally that it would loosen up with time but now it's done 24000 and it's no better

Yes, almost like you have to leave it in neutral wiggle it a bit before going into first, seems worse coming down from 2nd.

Clunky - yes definitely CLUNKY it's no MX5 box that's for sure.

My S1 Roadster has a Getrag box, and is the smoothest gearbox I have ever driven.

I second that, the mk1 has a great gearbox. They are also very well priced at the minute..

Knocked up a few temporary spacers to see if it helps cut out of PVC container - I have some Teflon sheets on the way.

Has helped with side slop a bit

I in the long term have plans for the T5 gearbox and the Mulfab adaptor plate but at the moment money tends to go on things like the Mortgage and food! wink

It is, I think, a Ford MT75 box, some info here and here.

Quite a lot of chat on various forums. Don't think even its mother would call it fast or slick, but they seems to be robust enough.

Of course, much cheaper then the Getrax box on the Mk 1 Roadster....

Luckily you don't need to change gear very often in the Roadster!
