Mine died today as I embarked on what I thought would be a long journey. Glad it didn't happen any further out than where I ended up. Symptoms are engine starved of fuel and quits and the whirring of the fuel pump at ignition on does not happen. If this is, in fact, the fuel pump then I have over 28,000 miles on the sucker.

What are the recommended replacement fuel pumps and do they have part numbers? Any sourcing in the US of A would be appreciated!

Is there any fuse or relay in the pump circuit?

Could be as simple as the relay on the firewall.

Check out page three of the "fuel pressure" thread. There are two links to replacement pumps.

Has anyone written out a procedure for the doing of this thing?

If someone has I've yet to find it.

Thought about that. A little.

We need to go back to having the tank above the nose of the car with only gravity feed! Yeah, that's the ticket! And carburetors!

sigh

Remove the luggage tray. The pump is in the forward part of the right side tank. The hard part is getting the black plastic cover off, lots of gooey black rtv. The hoses are the quick disconnect type, just push in the release tab and the hose comes off. The actual pump is held in by a lock ring, use a drift and tap the lugs to get it to unscrew. Pull the old pump out and reverse the process to install the new one. The electrical part just unplugs and plugs back in. Make sure you get the area reasonably clean to avoid debris falling into the tank.
