I mentioned this boat earlier in the year when we had the TM day out to the SS GB. She was moored up outside the restaurant. Anyway, she is just above Baffin Island now having almost completed the North East and North West passages round the Arctic in a single season. It has not been easy going, and although the ice has receded a lot they almost didn't get through into Lancaster Sound yesterday, which would have meant a retreat and overwintering in the NW passage. I'm joining the boat in Nuuk in Greenland next week to bring her back to Bristol. It may take a while as we'll need a reasonable weather window, but we hope to be back mid October. The blogs and tracker can be found via this link. Enjoy! http://polarocean.co.uk/tracking/

Great pictures of the yacht and scenery. Especially the picture of the yacht against the glacier The passage looks challenging to say the least!

There are some good bits of video on the Facebook link on the website too, particularly the drone shots in the Bellot Strait, and the ice as they approached Lancaster Sound. Looks like they are through now. Just as well, as I booked all my flights today!

I will watch with interest even though I cannot comprehend why anyone would want to go somewhere so cold. You can have adventures in the warm bits too!
Is Skip Novak still doing this sort of thing?

You are right, of course, Howard! Totally mad, but I've done the trade wind Canaries/Cape Verdes/St Lucia Atlantic crossing, and at my age new opportunities for a real adventure don't come round all that often. The joys of retirement!

Oh yes, and I think Skip Novak is still very active. Also Bob Shepton. And David Scott Cowper. Clearly I'm not adventurous enough, but they don't have my to contend with - bless her!

Incredible story that they may have reboarded and sailed the Terror, had the bay been named Terror bay before the discovery?

We've been on a couple of cruises in winter to Scandinavia/Iceland/Northern Europe. Loved them. Nice floating bases and out and about was great with suitable clothing. On the Queen Elizabeth the captain did a discretionary detour to Magdalena Fiord up on Spitzbergen, about 82deg North. Stunning! This year we went to Alta for Northern Lights spotting. Didn't bother paying £££ for a tour as the show from a darkened top deck was awesome. The bar was nearby too for warming toddies! The coldest was on a fast sightseeing boat in Stavanger Fiord due to the windchill at speed, spotted dolphins on the run too. I'd love to do your trip to Nuuk. The "off the beaten track" places are great to visit.
