Years ago we were on a family "Disney Trip" in Florida. Big barge of a car.... We were staying one night in a hotel in the Everglades. To get to it we needed the Tamiami Trail. What an experience! Arrow straight for miles.......a cheer when a bend was seen......another arrow straight section. A comfort stop at a cafe and a check under the car for alligators before getting to it...there were some swimming in the canal wide open area next to the carpark "Dad,,,what are you looking under the car for". "One of those..."pointing across to the water  Back to the road......an awesome bit of engineering, raised above the watertable. Cruise control on and a gentle ride to watch for wildlife. Eagles, many birds etc. Sounds coming from the nearby undergrowth. It made me think about US cars and their reputation as soft ride barges with no need to corner ! Enjoyed the car as the roads were different to here and they suited each other. Get a Morgan and find the roads to do it justice, a different experience and so much fun. Have travelled that road many times, about an hour and a half without a bend and strictly enforced speed limits (55mph in places if I remember correctly), probably the most boring road I've ever been on, especially as it was usually dark when I was travelling westward.

How about the Eyre Highway in Australia? From Balladonia to Caiguna is the "90 Mile Straight", 145.6 kilometres (90.5 mi) without a bend.

How about the Eyre Highway in Australia? From Balladonia to Caiguna is the "90 Mile Straight", 145.6 kilometres (90.5 mi) without a bend. Is that the one we see the road trains on?

Years ago I was driven from Ashville to Raleigh in North Carolina along a concrete road at 55mph. The concrete was laid in sections that gave a "nice" rythmic click click click. How I did not go to sleep I don't know.

Well hidden? Some strips of it are patrolled by the local "Native American" police forces, apparently on the spot fines being one of their main forms of income.

Re-deployed most like, due to budget cuts. Essex have reduced traffic officers from 175 down to 74 in the last 5 years and they wonder why the KSI figures are rising

The figures of KSI per billion miles are falling from an already low level. And falling in every group inc motorcycles and peds. According to govt stats for 2014 which seems to be the latest year with figures available.
