My top radiator hose gets moist when my Roadster cools down. By checking this hose when the engine is running at working temperature everything is ok- the top hose is dry. I have even checked the surface of the hose with a magnifier without noticing any "microcracks". The rubber appears to be in a healthy condition. Is this normal ?..just condensing ?

Odd. When the power to my fan failed & it started to over heat the hose leaked by via the jubilee clip. could it be a little loose?

John, I have checked the hose clamps- perfectly ok. Retightening these did not affect the issue

Is it orange OAT coolant and have you got silicone hoses ? With heat soak your coolant and therefore hoses get hotter and more pressurised when you switch off.

I had something similar happen on my Elise when I swapped to silicone hoses. I have always suspected that the hose developed internal pin holes, (especially where a tee branch occurred and the two hoses forming the tee were bound with more tape on the outside) that leaked into the fabric re-enforcement and thence out of a couple of microscopic holes in the outer case and also sweated coolant out via the fabric at the ends of the hoses. This you could see by the crust on the hose ends.

There is much evidence that OAT coolant eats silicone hoses, hence my suspicions about the cause.

Just a thought

Cheers John

It is ordinary "Red" coolant mixed with 50% water. I also add a can of original Bars Leaks every time I change the coolant (at springtime EACH year). No silicone hoses. I think all the hoses are the originals from 2005.

My original hoses are okay.

I was always of the opinion that leak sealant products had a tendency to gum up the cooling system. What do TMers think?

Try changing the Red antifreeze coolant to Green. I think that is what is recommended.

The Red/Orange is OAT I think, if you change the fluid make sure you flush the whole system really well , as they do not mix.
Why do you add Bars Leaks?

What type of coolant do Ford specify for the engine?
Stick to that.
Do you have an aluminium rad?
Simpler if you have as no mixed metal issues then.
From what I remember mixing Oat with non Oat can result in a reaction forming a sludge.
