I do like the IWC Pilots watch but £3500? Really? I'd rather buy a new set of wheels for Tarka....
Why not drop BIG HINTS to your Company just before you retire? After all, it is customary (and they are unlikely to present you with a set of wheels) Yes, in my dreams!

I tried to get a submariner at a main dealer in the City - no way. Waiting list for them and all the 'sport' rolexes.

It's interesting reading these posts. The issue, if that's the best word to use, with Rolex watches is the status they represent. That there is a waiting list for them is a manufacturers dream & I can see why Morgan want to bring back waiting times for new builds.
Are they value for money? I'd say so, if they resell at very favourable rates in a decades time. Are they any better than anyone else's watch? That's the argument to which there's no answer as it's very much a personal thing.
Mens watches are as much about jewellery as they are about telling the time. For years my kids shunned wearing them as they had mobiles that displayed the time. Watches are male accessories and things to 'show' first and foremost.
Not that there's anything wrong with this, we drive expensive and quirky cars after all. It just fascinates me watching the mens logic..
The big test is whether you can read the time when squinting at the watch. So many are just too fussy and cluttered, and many are very 'samey' but what do I know? I'm like Peter, with a Seiko on my wrist..

Have to say the Rolex Submariner no date is my favourite, had mine for 8 years now. I don't see it as a status symbol it's just a simple, reliable, good looking (In my opinion) watch that tells the time and nothing else. Bit like a Morgan in that many people don't get it and the depreciation is similar. Current new retail price is 70% more than it cost me and second hand it would still fetch 50% more. Not a reason to buy one but reassuring all the same.

Recently traded in a Rolex Air King Date circa 1960 and received £1200 (I would hazard a guess that's a lot more than was paid for it) for a Rolex Date/Just which will certainly last my days out and be of significant value even then.

I'm just compiling my Christmas 'wish list' to stuff up the chimney, which is jolly handy because that's as far as it will go, but I do like these: Bremont ALT/1 Brightling Avenger

Talking of breitlings.. I'm selling my minty 1967 Navitimer if anyone is interested.
Never owned a Rolex, but have a selection of Breitlings, Omega, Heuer, Seiko's, and others, mostly 60's and 70's stuff that I've acquired over the years.
An old pal of mine had a cardboard box stuffed with Rolex's under his bed or at least he did prior to his divorce, maybe not now!
