Dear all,

I should be grateful if anyone who has suplex suspension fitted to their Morgan can tell me about their experiences. Does it give a smoother ride? Does it improve handling and road-holding? Basically, is it an improvement? Are there alternatives to Suplex?

I'm relatively new to Morgan ownership and find my car quite uncomfortable to driive. I enjoy owning a Morgan but if I could improve the ride, I'm sure I'd enjoy it even more.

I have the front Suplex suspension fitted to my car and find that improves the ride and the cornering, especially the "nodding dog" syndrome. Importantly my wife noticed and appreciates the improvement.

But that is only my view, there are many differing views, if you search you will find several threads on this subject.

Firstly welcome to Talk Morgan..!

This is a very Marmite subject, a little like asking which oil is best. Suplex is but one solution to a problem that may lie elsewhere, and opinions vary as it's a very subjective subject. What you find uncomfortable, others will happily live with.

I have the Suplex on the front of my 1999 4/4 4 seater.
I also have the stainless steel kingpins and replacement roller bearings.
The ride is better, the St Malverns dance at the front end has gone, the steering is much quicker and I no longer live in fear of road grids so it is worth the change.

handling better
road holding probably down to other variables.

I do recommend the change, also have the Mulberry spaces to move the axle square in the wheel arches, also a pan hard rod, all these changes are worthwhile.

Welcome to TM. I have not driven any Morgan with Suplex so can't comment on that where as others can.

The 4/4 is lightweight at the front compared to some of the larger engined ones. I fitted brake reaction bars that had the effect of triangulating the suspension at the front bracing it more securely and found that for £38/pair and an hours labour to fit very good value as it tightened up the front end and improved braking and handling.

I have Suplex front and rear. I must echo the words of those who have given it the "seal of approval". It is oriented towards giving a comfortable ride without detracting from the sporty feel of the car. It is an expensive option but, in my opinion, the best for the touring comfort vs sport ride and handling. It is always going to be a compromise but this will improve the handling as against the standard Morgan setup. If you want a happy wife and still enjoy driving your 4/4 go for it.

We have now down about 35,000 km with the front Suplex fitted and about 10,000 with the rear kit fitted.

For those that prefer a more hard edged approach there are lots of other options, some of which will cost a lot less. These also include fitting harder springs to the Suplex kit and adjustable dampers front and back.

You don't mention what year model your car is or where you are situated. There are quite a few people who would happily take you for a run in their car, myself included, so that you can experience what it is like for yourself.

Need to know Year & Model Morgan You are driving. Also check what already has been written about Suplex.

Go to a dealer and drive a suplex suspension car , williams are experts at this .
