There is propably an easy fix for this, but I don't know how to do it. The mirror swivels free until it gets some grip in the pictured position. Can someone give me a hint?

Release the leather on the inside, reach in and tighten the nut. It really is that easy. Very little dismantling required.

Loosen the nut, turn the mirror stalk to the desired position and then tighten. The leather is fastened with Velcro.

If it's only the top part that's moving , it happened to me the first time I drove my car , the whole mirror was replaced under warranty .

Maybe I misunderstood. Only the top part? Never had that happen. Can't see the picture anymore. Did you remove it?

Yes, only the top part. But I can set it fixed in that lower position. So maybe doing this and then adjusting the arm will give a temporary fix.

I posted the picture to tinypic.com, as recommended somewhere in this forum, but their site seems to be down at the moment.
Edit: Problem with pictures seems to be bigger, ebay.de also shows no pictures right now.

Llap, had similar issue with one of my mirorrs until I replaced both with Lucas type.
There is a tapered angled interface between miror itself and stem which needs to be screwed fully home tightly. Unfortunately there are no flats on this part to aid tightening, so try twisting mirror itself clockwise until its tight onto the stem. A soft jaw Mole wrench may also work direct onto interface if careful not to damage chrome.
You can still move mirror in/out but may then need to adjust the mount itself onto bodywork, as described by DocNik, to gain desired rear view. Always adjust up/down with clockwise movement of mirror itself (it will continue to turn stiffly through 360° after fully tightened) to avoid it loosening again.

I just followed your recommendations. Removing the leather covers was easy (wow, the leather is on thin plywood). Inside it is a wrench size 17 and outside an 18.
It is only a temporary fix, but it will get me through the winter.
