Stewart, if you change your mirror type you may have to drill more holes as the hole centres vary and they have different bases and i believe the racing mirror is a single post, so dash off again….

Yes i thought that myself

what ive now done is taken apart my old Librands mirror that came off the windscreen by heating it up and prizing the glass off which was stuck with mirror glue, removed the old ball headed arm and swapped it for my new ball which fits on the stem that I've already fitted to the dash

really pleased as the old mirror was just the right size and looks nicer than the mirror head that I broke and has a neater and firmer adjustment

it wasn't easy as it was never designed to be taken apart but worth a hour of fiddling about

quite pleased i broke the other one now

I take my hat off to you Stewart for this endeavour
Fitting an aero screen seems, to me at least, to be anything but straightforward.
Your determination, application and perseverance knows no bounds.
The finished article is already looking great - just don't persuade me to do it. Argh!

thanks and i agree that it hasn't been easy - its not a short quick project and there are so many jobs around it - mirrors - sidebars if you have the easy up hood, wipers to remove etc.

I have just taken the decision to fit another one on the passengers side as i think either my eldest or Rachel might like a ride out with the screen folded - I look a bit 'Billy No Mates' with just one

Just ordered a new one off Ebay which was the cheapest I could find at £72 including postage

With this level of interest I am amzed that MMC no longer offer this option. Is there a "construction and use" reason?

The design of windscreen changed around 2006 (I think) where the geometry means they it can't fold forward flat

MMC did make a special 70th anniversary 4/4 that had the older windscreen and hood which folded but other then that I haven't seen a post 2006 Morgan with a folded windscreen.

Another way of doing it is removing the windscreen altogether and fitting aeroscreens, I do know of a few that have done this on later cars

For those who might be interested in what's inside a windscreen mounted mirror

These are photos of when I took the old mirror apart and adapted it to fit on my dash mounted stork

I had to get the glass off by heating it up using a jet lighter to soften the glue then used a scalpel blade to prize it out

The glue looked to be that white silicone looking mirror glue that doesn't react to silvered mirror coating

What a pollock !

Just organising my garage before fitting the passenger aeroscreen and perched it on a shelf in its slippery plastic bag

Slipped off the shelf and smashed the glass

Just had to order a replacement glass from Vintage car parts costing £23

Doh!
