From memory it cost my Father £65 in 1971.
It is willed to my son.

That may be a work of art but is almost totally lacks the primary function of a watch: to tell the time at a glance.

I still rather like the MeisterSinger range of single handed watches. The single hour hand gives the hour and 5 minute graduations. If you need to read the time with more accuracy a digital watch would be better. I have a Monograph which is a bit more complex than these, but for a Morgan you could not ask for anything more quirky yet simple to read.

The Meistersinger is a great idea but if you remove the minute-hand of any other watch they can do the same job.

Next step: create the "timeless watch" by removing both hands!

Well I guess you could rotate the dial so that the time is always at the top

Big feature on the 'new' Rolex Explorer. They go on in depth about the first ascent of Everest and how Hillary and Tenzing both wore Rolex Explorers……….

I always thought that at least one of them wore a Smiths Everest.

I have the answer to the original question!
How about one of these?

The 1953 Hunt expedition to Everest was both sponsored by Smiths and Rolex in that they gave their watches to the members and apparently Edmund Hilary wore both a Smiths Deluxe and a Rolex white face Precision (the Explorer as a model didn't exist then)

The Rolex had to be sent back to Rolex for tests but the Smiths Deluxes were given to all the members of expedition to keep
