Just asking.

don't remember doing Lancaster

I would think as it's over 20 years ago most of my courts have been refurbished again or moved since

The most impressive one I did was design the furniture for Bristol Crown Court in cherry veneer with inlaid wenge - very traditional but nicely detailed

Most others were very mundane and functional

I did design and kit out the court room for Nick Cotton's trial in Eastenders and got to meet all the actors and crew and had a personal tour of Elstree TV studios which was great

My first court room design I did was for the Blue Arrow fraud trial which was such a big case they couldn't house it in an existing london courtroom so it went into a large vacant office space in Chancery Row

The front counsel bench was to seat 18 people and I remember being told that the trial photocopying bill was £20K

We installed the whole court including all the witness stands, judges bench, advocates benches, jury benches and public seating in 2 days and put me and the company I worked for on the map with The Court Service

Before that and before I joined the company had just done a few tables and chairs to Scottish Courts

It's exactly the same rules that applied to advocacy in a court of law and so a speaking barrister, judge or magistrate can't wear a poppy as our own legal system deems it to be a symbol of alegency

Having it on a shirt doesn't allow individual choice which should I feel be allowed -there are many conscientious objectors, pacifists, humanists and religious organisations who will respect those who have died but won't wear a poppy

An armband allows those who might object to abstain from wearing it and I feel that those who have died have given their lives to preserve those very freedoms

This. I couldn't agree more.

Why is this now an issue?
In 2011 FIFA allowed England players to wear a black armband with a poppy on it. This was a friendly match against Spain.
I suspect the new FIFA bigwigs need to concentrate on the corruption within FIFA and not look for PC issues where there may not be any.
They can rightly refuse any commercial based motifs etc and also any clearly unsuitable images.
Spain wearing 'Gibraltar is Spanish" , USA wearing "KKK" badges etc..
Trouble is that someone , somewhere can easily claim offense for virtually any displayed motif.
I hope all who attend the match wear poppies and visibly display them.
Will any FIFA rep there wear one?

I've just heard an interview on radio 5 where the FA press officer has said that it took ages last time for FIFA to agree to the poppy armbands but all the FIFA administrators have changed

He did say that FIFA are over in London next week and they are confident of getting them to relent

I can not understand FIFA having an objection to armbands with a poppy on if both nations ie Scotland and England want to wear them

It is armistice day after all

Just realised I'll be at the NEC Classic Car show for the two minutes silence at 11 o'clock so I will head to the Morgan stand early to observe the silence with friends

I rather like Danny Mills' suggestion (not often I say that!) that those players who want to, get a fake tattoo of a poppy on the back of their right hand and place that over their heart while the National Anthem is played.
