We live in interesting times is about all I can say.
Brexit and now this, Trump is certainly anti-Europe but I predict that this will force Europe to pull together rather than put Europe in danger. I hope to goodness that you're right about that. I'm dreading the election of the ghastly Marine Le Pen in France next year now. I mean to say, why not ? The Brexit vote and this US election make me feel that all my worst fears are coming true. Don't worry Giles....if all is lost we will let you back in.   and I have been thinking about taking out French citizenship (which as things stand we can do without renouncing our British nationality). The prospect of President le Pen makes me less sure about this idea. Still, I can always claim Maltese citizenship as my dad was born there. By this time next year the UK will probably have completely fragmented and will be able to get a passport from the People's Republic of South Yorkshire....

After Brexit I put £10.00 on a Trump victory.
Think I'll put the winnings on the French "Lady".
All these results are doing are to further reinforce my view me that "one person, one vote" is a flawed concept. But not as flawed as any alternative, though it is getting closer.
I blame social media and the easy availability of propaganda which is taken to be news As a result all left leaning socialist governments are doomed: the people have lost their trust in the combination of left leaning socialism and the self serving financial markets plus their handmaidens in global business. They used to believe that the state would look after them. This belief has been shattered by the arrogant stupidity of politicians. Now the masses believe that a self made egocentric like Trump is a better bet.
The EU is dead, but doesn't know it yet. The main EU countries will turn in on themselves, which can only damage the smaller countries.
The USA will become more insular and unconcerned by the world, as it was in the 1930s.
Russia will play games and do nothing constructive
China will, through investment, take over Africa.
India and South Asia offer hope.
Time to fight for CANZUK: a federation of people with common values, language and together a significant trading block. Congratulations on winning your bet!!! I think your summing up of the global situation is probably spot on……. Sadly. From the Arab Spring to Brexit to Trump, all protest votes. The big worry is the rise of ultra right wingers.

Trump's victory is satisfying in a couple ways. The pollsters got it wrong again and the lefty lovies at the BBC have egg on their faces. On a more serious point I think that ordinary working people, when they can work, are fed up with being pawns in the games being played by big business and the intelligencia. Move jobs to China no one will notice. Lets have a single currency that impoverishes half of Europe. I could go on.

We live in interesting times is about all I can say. Trump, Putin, Erdogan, Duerte, Orban....  Then there is the possibility of an early general election and Corbyn getting in. Don't think "Never!" - look what's just happened. Never felt such despair
