If you have a Morgan manufactured before 1989 there is the possibility of importing it in to Australia.

It will have to comply with the Australian standards for the year it was manufactured but, other than the expense of obtaining a certificate, that should not be a huge problem.

I think if I was moving to Australia and wanted to take a Morgan that this would be my approach. Something like a Plus 8 may well be worth enough in Australia, once registered, to make it worth the effort.

I forecast the day will come when houses are built without kitchens as people won't know what to do with them.

I'm currently on family duties down under and have just caught up with this post. It makes me want to boycott vegemite, crawl under a rock and drink warm beer The bureaucrats obviously don't or can't drive or they would observe people on bicycles and motorcycles and horses and realise that a Morgan is actually a sane vehicle in which to cover the distance between A and B.

I can't guarantee the veracity of this but one car magazine says...

"The issue has surrounded the adoption of brake-assist standards, which Morgan has not got the locally-required certification for among its more traditional offerings".

The sentence construction is appalling but I take from it that Australians need more assistance with their braking than do most of the rest of the citizens of the civilised world. Spare me. I'm cancelling my plans to return and preparing to settle somewhere in the civilised world where drivers are allowed to brake without "brake-assist standards."

I have been trying to understand this. Does it mean ABS?

In any case, if the rumours are to be believed, it appears that the days of the trad Morgan are numbered. I expect to see a range of BMW powered, aluminium tubbed, ABS and airbag equipped Morgans in the not too distant future. Probably the current Plus 8 will be fitted with 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder turbocharged motors.

I would say yes to the ABS comment, and add in the word hybrid to the rest..

Hi Richard. Quite some distance from you at Hervey Bay on the east coast. A place where, despite coming here for more thank 40 years, I have never seen a Morgan. I spoke to a friend yesterday, he's 60, and he has never seen a Morgan in the flesh. I commiserated with him and we drank another beer. Apart from the lack of proper cars it's a lovely place.

Let me know if you intend traveling to the mid NSW coast as a catch up with the local Morgan owners might be the go...
