Thanks for the advice gentlemen. Because it is an import from California I only have the chassis number of the car so far so I am hoping that insurance companies will be able to work with that. Does anyone have experience of registering an import with DVLA? I am hoping it will be fairly painless and hassle free.

Gott and Wynn were very helpful and I shall be using them to insure my Morgan. I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the premiums are and they do a reduced rate for a car which is undergoing restoration.
Hope to have the car home before the year is out.

When I had to cancel my wife's policy, Adrian Flux charged me. [She had died, so no longer needed cover]
There's one insurer I'll never ask to quote again.

Nev. Yes you can insure on VIN, I had to to get my M3W registered. I found a classic full policy was cheaper than off road fire & theft cover. Gott & Wynn are very helpful Tim

For the last 3 years I have had an Admiral multi car policy. This is up for renewal, during the year I had changed my diesel Fiesta to a Fiesta ST and then had the Mountune upgrade. Each time I paid a bit extra. When the renewal came through they said that the full term amount would have been £680 for the ST and the +4 and this year it would be £780 ! I went on the internet and got a quote for the +4 for £251 with the AA. I tried the "Morgan" specialists, for the +4 G&W wanted £319 the others were either more or as in the case of one would not give me more than 5k miles ! The ST the best quote was £376 until I mentioned Mountune and they declined. So I thought I would ask Admiral to quote for the ST alone. A long conversation ensued as to why I no longer wanted the multi car policy, I explained that they wanted too much money. Hmmm they said let me look at what we can do, well we can reduce the Morgan by £50 give you free personal injury and bonus protection and I see you have 17 years no claims on both cars and have been a loyal customer blah blah blah. We can do both cars for £469.88 !!! which is less than the best quote for the ST on it's own. So why could they not offer that in the first place !

So why could they not offer that in the first place ! Indeed - a perpetual frustration. One detail - is the cover you have for the Morgan agreed value?

I am with Carole Nash for the Morgan, best price/cover i found at the time compared with some of the above. I also have a 6 wheeler policy for the tin top and the 5 motorcycles. I find their rates good and the terms (excesses etc) suit me. I do find their communications are not the best but i can live with that at their rates.

Paul, agreed value is for older classics, my cover is for market value and if you have been watching prices you will see that cars of our vintage are rising in price so I see no benefit in agreed value (hopefully).
