Mine has an alloy tube that holds the cooling kit above the rocker covers. A washer won't do it as the bolt is about 2 inches long. Not on mine anyway

A washer on top of the tube would raise the cover higher by the thickness of the washer, I was thinking?

Ah yes, I get you. Or just get some longer tubes. I lost one and a local engineering shop made me 2 for free

Well too cold to drive it here now, and impossible to drive without rocker covers, so i will have some time to think about it! Hopefully Morgan gets me a good set in time to take advantage of the odd dry salt free winter day here in Michigan.

Well the dealer has given me the green light to install the second set of engine covers, even though I am not going to accept them. This way at least I can use the car this weekend!

Today I decided to switch the electric heater on out in the garage, and install the Mk.2 JAP covers on the engine. Just in case we get a warm dry day here some day soon! You can see some of the venting in the belt cover.

More of the Jap cover installation, I did space ip the Cooling Kit Vent by installing some washers under the spacer tubes, but not it lays tight against the bottom of the radiator cowl....
