Morgan driving for me anyway, requires being able to find interesting routes to destinations trying to avoid motorways

My business routes all involve motorways as I travel the country in the most convenient way so my A road and minor road knowledge is a bit limited, plus I use the sat nav all the time

I have had several printed UK road atlases over the years but are now out of date and not really very good for minor routes, mainly because the scale is too small and major routes dominate and are drawn rediculously over scale

So I went into Preston today and had a good browse of all the road atlases on sale in WHSmiths with the challange of being able to pick out relatively easily all the A and B roads that I took in the Morgan yesterday coming back from Heald Green near Manchester

There was only one winner which was so clearly better than all the others and it was a publisher I hadn't heard of before

It's called the Philip's Navigator Britain with a scale of 1,1/2 miles to 1inch

Most of our Morgan road trips begin in an Atlas..........

Followed by Tulip Contour mapping.

The Fosse Way is a keystone in our travels, linking Leicester with the A303. And it's not bad North towards Newark either.

Like Mr W - all routes south in the Morgan seem to include the Fosse Way.

I use a Sat Nav for most journeys but all start with a decent map.

For France the Michelin map is best - and the pages are laminated enabling you to mark the map with a dry wipe marker or Chinagraph pencil and wipe off later.

Has anyone found a decent map book for Germany? I have searched more times than I can count and still cannot find anything with a sensible scale.

One of the nicest parts of savouring any Morgan adventure is the map browsing. To sit and explore with a laptop and map is an essential part of the trip for me..

I used to mark my Philips Atlas with favourite routes and cafe's, too..

Been using Philips 1.5 mi / inch for years.
Nice thing with them is the grid uses OS reference (very useful for some of the radio activity I do).
I usually acquire a new OS 1:250000 if we are going to spend any time in an area, too...

These are excellent we used one all the time when we worked out there - it doesn't make much difference it being in German really, it's very easy to pick out the bits you need.

Seems I'm the only one to have never heard of a Philip's road atlas then

It seems that we are related after all ........
I mark my atlas in yellow highlighter for our favourite routes. And sometimes favourite filling stations.
In my Philip's navigator.....

Most people we speak to don't use maps , we do , only using a sat nav for the last mile to find somewhere !
