I an My friend Loretta are going to Tour New Zealand for 5 weeks. Starting 5 Feb until 15 March. Need advice about Reservations. I would not like to make any. But also We would like a place to sleep at night. Any information including sites that I should not miss will be welcome.

PS: I will have My Sister In Law's Miata to drive. Starting in Whangarei.

Hello Button, as school holidays are finished then, you should be fine. I would book your ferry ride across a couple of days before you want to cross (between islands)but you should be ok for accommodation. Please stop in when in south island pm me for details. Cheers Randall

Trip advisor works well in NZ for suggestions.

As Randall says, the busy time is over by then however I'd avoid the bay of islands around 6th February as that is our "national" day with events centred there that invariably attract problems.

If you have time, make contact by PM

Thanks for the Info.

While in Paris a few years ago I ran into a KIWI, Morgan Owner, Auckland and I think an Architect. Anybody know Who He is?

Hi Button
Just make certain you keep in touch and come and visit us in Tauranga. I have a brother in Gig Harbour not too far away from your digs. When we were over your way in 2013 I did not realise you were there. Did catch up with the Stinsons and the Hendersons ( Tom had gone over to the dark side by selling the Morgan and replacing with a Mustang!)
Due to the popularity of New Zealand with the overseas public at the moment booking accomodation is probably preferable but one can probably get by provided one can accept accomodation a bit off the beaten track.
Keep in touch

Button,

Generally when my wife and I travel we book the first couple of nights and then wing it.. I hate letting my accomodation bookings manage my holiday. We did NZ, South of South Island for ten days in May a couple of years ago with two other couples and had no trouble getting digs on the fly. Have done the same with Tasmania, Japan and Europe.

There is so much to see in NZ and with 5 weeks you should be able to catch a fair bit. Enjoy, relax and go home safe. budster

Thanks Gramme,

If using the Miata/MX5 make sure to know where the unmetalled roads are, they can be a tad dusty!

Do what we do hit a T junction and flip a coin! Yes seriously.

The South Island is our favourite place in NZ. But you have to visit the Northland Russell is lovely. Infact plenty of NZ is great, probably why we just love going back.

Really friendly people, great food, if you like fish then you have to take in Fleurs place not far from the Moeraki boulders, feeling adventurous NZ has heaps to offer.

Some fantastic driving roads, top tip make sure that you have a steady supply of sunscreen and that you use it daily.
