Most likely your 1986 4/4 is a Fiat engined car. Of those not so many were built. If you want info, please contact me off line. Publishing chassis numbers on more or less public fora remains dangerous. I thought that the FIAT engined cars were Plus 4s?

They used the 1600 and 2000 engines so presumably also in 4/4's?
But I'm not an expert.................. On FIAT engined Mogs.

I had a 1985 plus 4 fiat engined four seater but they did also use the 1600 fiat engine in the 4/4 at the same time as well. Great car, nice engine and super gearbox.

If MooseMountain, the initiator of this topic, has a chassis number on his 4/4 beginning with the letter F then is indeed a Fiat engined car. However those cars were produced between 1981 to 1985. At that time MMC offered the option of either the Fiat 1600 Twin Cam, an engine that was fitted in the Fiat Argenta which MMC imported through Iveco, the commercial side of the Fiat company, or the Ford CVH engine. Because the 4/4's fitted with the Fiat engines was several hundred pound more than the 4/4's with the CVH engines sales were poor and consequently only 92 to 96 were sold, a number in excess of 14 quoted by MooseMountain. But I have heard tale that towards the end of Twin Cam production run they used a small quantity of 2 litre naturally aspirated engines in cars badged 4/4 which was prior to the re-introduction of the Plus 4 with the Fiat 2 litre fuel injected engine

I remember experiencing the 1600 engine in a Mirafiori and it was a nice smooth revvy unit.

IIRC, the Fiat twin cam engine was designed by Aurelio Lampredi, who amongst other things designed race engines for Ferrari. A very desirable unit indeed.

I have a chart that shows the history of models based on engines used. I will try to find it and link here. Update...found it ...it shows both 4/4 and Plus 4 having Fiat engines.

No numbers manufactured on the chart. Just dates. 1995cc engine shows for Plus4 just prior to the Rover engined cars.
