MG is a tragedy. How sad that BMW didn't make the same job of MG that they did with MINI.
A high quality small MG range would have done well. Maybe not huge numbers but something aspirational.
What they produce now is laughable......................
Although the new mini SUV is apparently doing well, maybe because it looks like a Toyota.

Being a youngster I'm not very knowledgable on these things but wasn't the Rover P6 a good car?
I seem to remember it was well designed and quite advanced for its time

Yes the P6 was a great car - and still is in many ways. the last true Rover before the BL bean counters wrecked it with the SD1. A great idea very poorly made. Tragic

Shame it wasn't better built though Martin.
Several of Dad's colleagues had them as company motors when they came out.
The worst was the MD's car - first morning into work, closed driver's door and heard a clatter from the front - badge had fallen off. It went downhill from there - two gearboxes, rear axle and various other things of a lesser import. Lease was terminated before a year was up. Of five, three suffered failure of one or more major items... A batch of Monday or Friday cars maybe?

I had an SD1 - the 2.7 ( this must have been about 1982?)
Oh dear just sooo underpowered.
She would go - but it was really hard work to get any kind of performance!
And so was really thirsty as I recall.

The SD1 was a good car in many ways and from a sales point of view, it was a success. I also had an SD1. Mine was a 3500 Auto. I had it from new in 1980. Cracking car and the only issue I had in a year was a door trim that needed re-fitting. Mine was in a lovely darkish green/grey metallic with silver alloys. ps Just realised that his post has made me a Charter Member!
