Its criminal how our car industry was destroyed by arrogant and poor management. The unions didn't help either.

Yes I can still hear that idiot "Red Robbo's" dreadful arrogant voice through those dying throes  . I can remember Michael Edwards being parachuted in by a desperate government - he sank without trace too.

I worked in Llanelli Radiators in the early '80's for a short while. Left for a better job/company. Some legacy from the bad days there but the management were poor. There was a "kick someone's arse" and shout to get things done mentality and approach. Poor coordination of production as the planners were not up to it. I left after realising I couldn't do anything about it and couldn't work like that. I went to make cigars instead!
The factory is still going after a management buy out and later rakeover by a Japanese company.

If you add up all the production figures, the Rover group was making about half a million vehicles a year!!!!!
Ford & Vauxhall were also making about 300,000 a year too!!
And Peugeot was also producing another 50,000 a year.
Pity it all stopped!!!!

Very interesting historical document.  But lets not forget that the UK still makes 1.6 million vehicles a year

I wonder what the people responsible for the crippling of the British car industry are doing now - presumably retired but what pension have they got ?
Geneva 2016 plus 8' The Green Godess' 4 side exits .

Very interesting historical document. But lets not forget that the UK still makes 1.6 million vehicles a year And very good ones at that - which I'm afraid can't be said of many of British Leyland's offerings...

Lets not forget British leylands legacy - the hugely successful LandRover, Jaguar and Mini brands are thriving. Ok not British owned anymore and the profits don't all stay here but they are still with us......
Oh and MG , but I think I'd rather forget that..........
