Upon inspection i decided that a winter job would be to replace the rear lings and bought them in advance ready for the job when i got around to it. I can't remember where i bought them from i'm usually careful with all my reciepts but i've mislaid this one, however it was from a morgan authorised dealer and as such might have expected all the bits needed for the job. However upon searching for info on the brakes i came across some info on the AP brake site for the morgan brakes showing a "Pillar spring retaining kit" and stating that it was only available from AP and that they can only be used once. It consisted of 2 small spring washers, one required each side in order to hold the handbrake pivot lever in place onto the lining. I wonder if anybody has tried to source this kit from AP. I have relined one side and managed to re-use the washer and i'm satisfied that the pivot is securely locked in position. The AP document also recommended replacement of the 4/ side unf bolts that hold the drum on and suggested NAMRICK as supplier. I'll probably try to source the retaining kit tomorrow. Any input / experience would be appreciated. Just a reminder, the 2011 cars have the self adjusting brakes making things more awkward to execute since the auto adjust mechanism and handbrake pivot needs to be removed and fitted onto the new linings.

I rebuilt mine and reused all the fittings and bolts.
About 1000mls later one of the cup washers that need turning though 90 degrees to lock failed, the centre pulled through and locked the back axle solid. Luckily I was only reversing out of the garage at the time, needless to say I replaced all four for new ones pretty sharpish. My car only had 22,000mls on it but the wheel cylinders needed replacing as they had leaked and contaminated the linings before I owned it. Another good reason to change the brake fluid every two years.

Interesting Richard, I noticed that the cup washers were not stamped out as well as others I have seen, look a bit third world country to me. They're not as well made , with indent well defined as some that I sourced for my caterham marina back brakes. I'm going to re-check and possibly replace.

lowflyer, I had the same problem. Ordered new rear brakes for my 2011 4/4 from our authorised dealer thinking I would get all the necessary parts for the job - wrong. I should have known better. it was from a morgan authorised dealer and as such might have expected all the bits needed for the job. However upon searching for info on the brakes i came across some info on the AP brake site for the morgan brakes showing a "Pillar spring retaining kit" and stating that it was only available from AP and that they can only be used once.

Got some horror story from one Authorized dealer regarding the price of a replacement slave cylinder for the rear brakes. He mentioned a figure of £100 but also said that they were nigh on impossible to get. I received 2 today from brakes international, £25.29 for 2 inçluding postage. Theyre used in the ford transit van range, i went for the BWC5099, it has the largest bore piston, 22mm so may tend to give a harder pedal feel although wether this is felt with the car having a servo remains to be seen and of course i'm not sure whst morgan has installed from new. The smallest diameter piston they have is around 16mm. If selecting from the range you need to be sure that the slave cylider selected has the split pin that locates the piston onto the backplate on the right hand side of the bleed valve when viewed from the back of the backplate. The cylinders seem to come with extended bleeď nipples so the original bleed nipple may need to be transferred. Anyway at that price its worth having a couple on the shelf, you never know.

That's interesting particularly about the piston diameter - I didn't measure mine but they were Caparo/AP CW15953 and a similar price to yours and came with the roll pin locator in the back.
Just looked up the diameter is 23.81mm and this is OE supplier.

Will increasing piston diameter change brake balance ?

Yes it does. I'm trawling back through my memory banks. The MGBGTV8 uses 1800 Roadster cylinders to reduce brake effort at the rear. The bigger (front) pad area on the V8 meant that standard GT rear cylinders made them more prone to lock up. Not sure which way round the diameter was but presumably smaller bore means more pressure?
