It's a brilliant under-rated engine, and very easy to work on.
I wish that I still had one................

Short door  Long door  When you get your car make sure it is a long door, ingress and egress is so much easier - my first Plus 8 was a short door and painful.

Short door Long door When you get your car make sure it is a long door, ingress and egress is so much easier - my first Plus 8 was a short door and painful. I agree! My +8 Bitsa has a '98 chassis (Long Door) and a much earlier Body Tub (Short Door) plus I added Roadster Seats (Long Door). After I get in I am super comfortable. But I almost need a Back Doctor every time I get into or out of this cracker box. After a bit of sorting out and another engine (3.9) I am beginning to love My +8 Bitsa. It certainly has a lazy engine. Unless I am on the "Interstate" (Motorway) I leave it in 4th because I like the instant power. But that being said I have never broken the rear wheels loose. It just scoots. The addition of 300mm front brakes and the big cast iron brake drums (I plan to change this to disks) give quite a lot of security in the Mountains. I try to keep the weight down. It was 1,800 lbs. It has crept up a bit. If your a bit of a mechanic and have a place to work, This project, has kept this old man very happy.

Your bitsa sounds quite a character - you must be very well behaved not losing the back end at least once.

Or fit a smaller steering wheel. It's better for the biceps.

I have a 2002 Plus8 with Gems management.
Lovely car.
Effortless cruiser, a bit heavy steering at parking but lovely feel on the move.
25k miles done with no issues. The management light did come on a couple of times but for "randon intermittent misfire" code that I reset. The misfires were undetectable. Last summer the mpg was touching 30 so very pleased. It is comfortable, new AVO shocks late last year...very nice improvement and set to 7 clicks front and lowest rear. Librands rollbar added. Removable steering wheel but only taken off if I need access to the dash.
The under bonnet temp does get high, no engine overheating as the fan kicks in. A couple of minor wiring blips but sorted ok.
A great move from the '93 4/4 that was also nice but a totally different animal.

Or fit a smaller steering wheel. It's better for the biceps. No problem with biceps - I have had people half my age struggling to get in and out of a long door let alone my earlier short door Plus 8. Some seniors said goodbye to stomach muscles years ago and they really struggle.

Hello
Before I bought the Aero 8, recently sold, I owned a 1978 +8 (also yellow). With my wife we did many trips in the car, both within France and back to the UK. Always found the car excellent on long runs providing road surfaces not too bad. Also, and I think because it was a well tuned twin SU carbed car, I got excellent fuel consumption either in the high twenties or even sometimes very low thirties.
Would still buy another one if the correct example comes along, though being older I would now use earplugs!
