I am considering mounting a badge or two on my otherwise empty badge bar.

The question is, whether a couple of badges, tilted aerodynamicaly at the same angle as the grille, have any noticable effect on the cooling? Clearly they must have some effect on air flow, but perhaps it is so insignificant that there is no loss in cooling efficiency?

I welcome the reasoned comments of experienced Morganeers, and they will be instrumental in helping decide whether I put adornment, in front of function and form.

I've got 4 badges on my badge bar, I've never noticed any detrimental impact on cooling. I think it might have been an issue on the old Plus 8s, their cooling was somewhat marginal at times, but for a recent Plus 4 I can't see it would be an issue.

I don't think they will present a problem at all. If you had a Rover V8 engine and lived in a very hot place maybe it would be a consideration but even then i don't see a huge issue in having a few badges.

An idea Andrew is to mount the badge bar upside down to what seems to be the convention, this lowers the badges from the airflow by quite a bit. Not my idea I copied the idea when someone else suggested it some years ago. My 2008 +4 has no noticeable affect on its running temperature from having the bar and badges mounted this way.

I have never noticed any difference between the temperatures achieved when we collected our car and now with 5 badges in place. I have also fixed a modest rally plaque over the badges on one trip and not noticed any change. What did cause an increase in running temperatures was the much larger rally plaque isssued by Scenic and Continental on one of their trips last year.

+1 to Paul's comment. Rally Plaques make a big difference but badges don't.

I`ve got 5 badges fixed to the grille on my 4/4 sport - never had any sign of overheating - runs at a steady 80 degrees.

On my Plus8 I removed a couple of badges to see if any effect on coolant occured. Result was no noticeable effect. I am left with a single central badge and a badge on the ends of the bar. The car does not overheat but in summer the fan kicks in more than I like. I may look at airscoops/ducting for summer use to see if the rad temp can be lowered a bit. The gauge shows 90+ on a run in summer in warm weather but creeps up in traffic.
Winter temp just touches 80 with very rare fan cutting in.
Having seen the video done by someone with tufts of wool to show airflow, the grill edge areas seem to have not much air going in so try your badges towards the outer ends of the badgebar as a start.
Your single badge ? Try mounting in the centre first. I doubt you will affect the coolant temp.
