Where we live in the Norfolk Broads is brilliant for driving as there are no roads of any consequence hence nobody drives through Norfolk to get anywhere else. Obviously the sailing is a big draw in the summer months and we also have a long but cold coast with nice little villages plus a number of good stately homes to visit. The down side is of course the summer visitors who, despite bringing much needed money into the area, often bring big city/town driving manners with them. To top it all, E Anglia is possibly the driest part of the UK where we can stand looking up at the big skies watching the empties going back to Manchester. And you get free drugs when the tide comes in

Although I live within 10 miles of Stansted airport, my own little hamlet is relatively quiet and I have plenty of open farmland just beyond my door. The scenery here is not at all spectacular, but is homely enough. I am lucky to be within easy reach of Hatfield Forest, where I help out 2 or 3 days a week.

Devon the road (old one) from Tiverton to South Molton must be the only smooth road in the UK where you can drive the whole way without seeing another moving car.
On the other hand the road from Teignmouth to Dawlish is impossible to drive without hitting a huge number of road grids
Some other quiet great roads as well, study the 1675 maps of Ogilvie!

Simple. If Yorkshire is "Gods Own County" as it is of course, then Monmouthshire where I now live is his wife's place. Softer, prettier rather than rugged, and being next to the Brecon Beacons its fine driving and riding country.
Even as a true born Yorkshireman, I wouldnt now go back. Its that good! And I've become a soft southern vest wearing shandy drinking wuss anyway.

Sitting in the caff on the prom yesterday for coffee and cake, all the conversation was about the police raid a couple of days ago on a cannabis farm! I'm beginning to wonder what sort of village I am moving to! Wasn't like it in my day. Probably explains why everyone seems so relaxed and happy up here.

Jays, a year or so ago, my wife and I and a bunch of fellmoggers visited a restaurant in Grange to celebrate Mrs Scratched's birthday. After the meal we repaired to the nearest pub. Whilst enjoying a drink or two the pub was engulfed by police in armoured uniform complete with sniffer dogs searching the premises and customers for drugs. You expect drugs raids in downtown L.A. but not downtown G! Welcome back.

Its truly amazing.
I went on business to a tiny village hall in a small village near Stratford upon avon where I live.
In the loo was a small plastic bag - with some "tobacco" remains in it.
I showed this to the caretaker - she shrugged her shoulders " ah yes" she said " there was a wedding reception here last Sat - that would be it - weed"!! and guess what - it was the Ladies loo!
I hope that I am a man of the world and "get" these things - but the point is that drugs are everywhere.
I worry for my grandchildren.

Whilst enjoying a drink or two the pub was engulfed by police in armoured uniform complete with sniffer dogs searching the premises and customers for drugs. Is it just me that finds this ironic? A Pub raided by a Police force part-financed by the £10.5Bn+ excise revenues from the State-sanctioned drug of choice, alcohol... Just protecting the Treasury's monopoly on mood-enhancement?
