My 2014 M3W has picked up a loud squeak when I take my foot off the accelerator and the weight of the car shifts forward.

Sounds like it's coming from the right front suspension...but I'm not sure.

It's quiet over bumps, around corners and while accelerating. I've checked the front end and don't see anything loose. I tried rocking the car. I stood on the floor, bending my knees to make the car move up and down. Not a sound.

It's just one, loud squeak - like metal rubbing - when the weight shifts forward. It's repeatable. Just accelerate and take your foot off the accelerator, and it squeaks again as the weight shifts forward again.

Any ideas where to look?

Thanks,
James

I have noticed this on my 2014 but have not tried to track it down. Although mine seems to squeak in a slow corner.

One thing that might be beneficial is picking up a gopro. You can stick them at various points on/in the vehicle. Point them at places that may be suspect, and get em closer to the source of the sound, until you narrow it down.

Ha, nope, not yet. Still saving my pennies. I am somewhat mechanically apt though, worked in a vintage vespa/lambretta shop as well, so I'm not completely clueless. While this variant of the 3 wheeler is definitely a newer vehicle I think the general setup on it lends itself to having a lot in common with older vehicles. I do work on those, picked up an MGB GT for the girlfriend's birthday, and it has me chasing a lot of leaks and squeaks.

Having the gopro has been pretty handy for a lot of that stuff. Set it somewhere where I think the issue is coming from, and video will sometimes tell me if I'm right or not. They're robust little cameras, and can be just as much of a diagnostics tool as they are for filming for youtube.

That, and I just do a lot of research. Especially for something that will be a large chunk of of my change.

I'd guess at belt tension. Squeals on the overrun at low speed but nowhere else..?

Sounds are difficult to pinpoint when moving, but that's what ours was.

Good hunting!
