Quite a bit over the legal limit and well into prosecution area (90db) cop just saying innocent

You must not forget that decibels are a logarithmic scale. The difference between 90db and 100db is a doubling in the perceived sound.) 98db is not 9% more sound but about 180% more sound.

You seem to have a strange fascination with excess noise! That sort of level on a road car is just anti social.......a nice V8 burble is so much nicer!

Indeed, for those who want some background.

Sitting in the cinema - a nice old fashioned one in the local high street - and having a decent film ruined by some loud exhausts - i suspected Corsas and Clios got me thinking how anti-social it is.

A haven't until now thought that of a Morgan - a nice V8 burble isn't anti-social is it? I wonder how the rest of the population view us petrol heads? I fear the sight of a plus 8 with the full sound stage exhausts bellowing might just attract quite a few negative swear words.........i bet you can guess a few! I know what i called the Corsa and clio drivers anyway.

I think i'd forgive a Morgan...but i'm lucky enough to own one, albeit very quiet by comparison

The dual side exhaust on the Coupe is loud. When it went in for it's first MOT there was a lot of discussion around the equipment going "faulty" at the wrong moment. When I start the car in the garage it echos all down the road. I switch it off when it is resting on the drive or SWMBO gives me the little look of shame. I have lined the lower half of the garage with absorbent board to reduce it now. I try and keep my arrival/departure times to more reasonable hours.

When on full power to overtake in the narrow local roads it is very loud. I try and plan the overtake so the power is used prior to coming alongside the car being passed so I don't blow their doors off.

I do also make the same comments where I hear a Ferrari go screaming up the high street !

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Sorry, but 98db is just bonkers. That's nearly 8 times as loud as the conventional yardstick of 'acceptable' noise level (70db). You're well into the range of hearing damage when subjected to these kinds of levels for more than a couple of hours without protection.

There's no other way to put it, it's properly anti-social. Is it any wonder that public opinion has turned against 'petrol heads' if they are subjected to this kind of noise?
