Thinking of getting a Williams double bonnet strap... but do they rub the paint?

Pleased to report that they don't..!

Anything in constant contact with paintwork though, has the potential to cause a mark. The Williams belts are backed with thick sheepskin like material and can be tensioned so as to hit the sweet spot of 'just tight enough' and not too tight or too loose.

I wash mine & blow dry the soft stuff from time to time.

well it hasn't been seen since so maybe its still parked there!

agree with Steve on the strap. I had the twin buckle jobby, good belt and no paint issues, although I did put some clear film under the 'corners' just in case.

I decided against as a number of cars I`d seen had "patina" where the straps were.

My strap has quite badly damaged the paint... the leather 'patch' under the buckle has no sheepskin and this is where it's scratched the paint. As I keep the strap on all the time it's not a major issue - but annoying all the same.

The bonnet on my Roadster would start to lift at high speeds, so I prefer the strap in place on the bigger car.

Unfortunately yes they do as mine has a lovely big leather/sheepskin strap which I think is a must for a Mog , it makes it stand apart from anything else on the road even more , I have wrapped cling film round the metal bits and plan to put it back on after her service in a few weeks !

A strip of paint protection film should prevent damage. Maybe 80mm in width.

I have had many straps. (4-4, 4/4. Plus 4. Plus 8) The sheepskin is the only answer. Felt will mark the paint as will bare leather. However Sheepskin is fine.

Cheers,

Mark
