hi JFP we are rebuilding our 1958 plus 4 had to fit handbrake cable yesterday found soldering handbrake cable nipple didnt hold so tapped the nipple and clamped the cable with a bolt ...much better I now have issues such as the timing to consider as the new accuspark dizzy cant be timed statically ie set at tdc then advance vac advance knob half turn which is 4 degrees
so i guess i'll have to use the strobe and a running engine but set to how many degrees cause the dizzy weights will add some degrees
im guessing i need about 10 - 14 degrees advance?
Rob Re soldering the cable.....might this method work? OK for reforming the end. Plain solder might be a bit soft so type metal or hard solder ( silver solder) could be alternatives. https://youtu.be/Ysd8JkWclmc

Rob Correct, 10-14 degrees advance at idle

U-joints are good and the axle backlash is within spec. I'll check the axle U bolts tomorrow when I can get underneath. Thanks everyone! One axle U-bolt nut needed a half turn, all the rest are tight. Shock plates are intact and bolts are tight.

Check the mounting lugs on the back of the Moss gearbox,a couple of things can happen. The hole for the bolt through to the silentbloc bush can wear oval, especially if the bolts have been loose for some time. Usual cure is to ream them oversize and press in a liner. The other (rarer) is that the actual mounting ear can crack which will give a bit of movement.

Arwyn both the silentbloc bolt opening and mounting ears look good.
