In short, no...

There are decent gains to be made from a proper exhaust manifold and system on the S1 Aero. But when I say proper, it will be north of £5-6K for an equal length ceramic coated manifold (else it will cook everything in the engine bay)and a proper mandrel bent, correct diameter full exhaust system

And then there's the fitting cost....

I did do a lot of work with simulation for some of the planned development work on the Aero GT after the 2006 Britcar 24hr race, but the owner decided to take the car elsewhere

For what its worth, we ran circa 380BHP from the 4.6 engine for the 24hr race through the standard manifolds, no cats (we didn't have to worry about emissions) and a 2 1/2 OD exhaust system. We had large(but straight through) silencers and side exit exhausts

Hi Simon,

It would be great if someone did eventually produce some good manifolds for the Aero, give it some more bark..

With regards to the exhaust I have a question, I note there are 2 cats on each side before the silencer, how much do these restrict performance in your experience and would removal of one of those be the best route for performance/noise rather than removing the only exhaust box in the system (Librands)?

Thanks,
Nick

Well, Like I've said before

I have the Librands system but have now omitted the running board silencers and it's still not noisy, got a nicer bark but wouldn't mind it louder.

You have to remember the CATs silence too.

Does it idle any louder?
Must admit I am in two minds as to what to do, as if I remove the centre sections all that is left is the tailpipes - that's an expensive £1700 set of tailpipes laugh2

A little. Has more bark on start up and rev but still easy on the ear when on the motorway cruise

I had very good mobile guy come around home and take the silencers off, cut them open and bandage up the inner perforated pipe. I figured this was a good option as it was reversible.

Hi Nickcw,
To get the tickover to be louder you would have to decrease the internal restrictions in the exhaust to such an extent that when you blip the throttle or accelerate the noise would be very loud.
As previously mentioned I removed the back boxes and that was loud enough for me, tickover was still quiet (although a little louder than stock)and it had a nice growl on acceleration.
Not an easy decision if you are wanting a louder tickover, good luck,
Ian

Thanks guys, thinking about it.. it ticks over at such low revs when warmed up (about 600 if I recall) that I wonder if the idle can be adjusted.
At about 800/900 revs (where it sits after the initial cold start settle before it fully warms up) it sounds lovely..

I have an infinity rear system on mine that deletes all the rear silencers and just uses the Cats I believe. Silent on tick over and loud enough when driving, certainly hear it bouncing off buildings etc. I also thought louder would be good, but a friend owns a TVR with typical loud pipes......he used ear protectors when driving as it is too loud. So carefully what you ask for.

More BHP mind......but £5k might be a tad too much

Well, I have decided on a twin pipe side exit job. All booked in to have it done. Looking forward to a car that no longer sounds, er, mild. 😀
