Bit of tongue in cheek thread really but hopefully scope for a bit of irreverent banter. Anyway, having completed my first epic trip in the old Plus 8 around Brittany & Normandy in roof down full on sunshine, I'm now afflicted with what can only be described as a Rodney Trotter suntan. It would appear that my only option in avoiding a repeat of this is some form of headgear. Now I'm not what you call a naturally enthusiastic hat wearer. I'm certainly too old and too English to contemplate the Baseball Cap, a full on flying helmet is obviously OTT in hot weather and dare I say a bit too obvious for driving a Morgan top down at anytime. I am warming the idea of the reversed flat cap but equally fear this a tad caddish. Feel free to recommend your own preferences or recommendations.
Well I have had a Tilley for years and while it does most of the things that it says on the tin (I have not tried to get an elephant to eat it!!)it is useless in the Mog. The brim is too floppy and merely blows backwards. While I also have a general dislike of baseball caps I have to say that is my most practical and effective solution keeping the sun both off the head and out of the eyes. The trick is to find one that is not too naff. If I went the flat cap route my kids would never lt me hear the last of it.
Smiffmog seeing as you were in Brittany did you consider a beret? Barbour flat cap in green waxed[actually sylkoil] finish is my choice, Tilley are great [I've sold hundreds of them] but not for Mogging unless your middle name is 'Chump', what ever you choose it needs to be a close fit, or you will literally wave your hat goodbye when speedo hits 90, though Tilley would give you 50% towards a new one should that happen [within 2yrs of purchase]
Historically I've been a hat 'aversionist'. I have now got an MSCC blue/red baseball cap, and a red Mogtalk baseball cap. I now wear them with aplomb, but not at the same time. I do have a green waterproof flat cap, but it does make one look Caddish............

not Caddish, more of a Bounder, I've even got a brace of Border terriers to go with the cap, BTW northern chappie how are the whippets and racing pigeons?
