Has anyone got any recommendations for tyres? I know there's a thread in the Owners FAQ but it seems to be mainly track-focused and is 2 years old...

I'm currently running Avon ZZ3s and they are rubbish. I'm assuming they are what the car was supplied with. I don't know if the Avons just aren't suited to track work or whether the car has stood for a long period of time and the rubber has perished, hence why they weren't offering good levels of grip.

The reason I want to swap tyres is that we had a scary sideways moment at 70 last weekend on track (with fully warm tyres and plenty of tread left). Even backing off substantially, the back end was still trying to come around and the tyres were screaming round every corner.

I want a tyre which is good for everyday road use (including wet weather) and will be relatively good for occasional track use. I've run my previous cars on Toyos and they've been pretty good as an all-rounder so was contemplating switching to them. Has anyone tried different tyres on their Aero and has recommendations on what to use/not to use?

Also, I'm sure I read somewhere about the banning of semi-slicks soon (is it the sale of? the (road) use of...?). Anyone know anything about this?

the new michelin pilot sport 2, conti CSC3, bridg RE050A, new toyo T1S out in june I think, T1R is good too. Now I dont have an aero so I dont know how these tires would react on the car, but the first 3 are the benchmaker of the moment.

T1R's Excellent in wet and dry ('Ring in the wet and Spa in the dry) watch out for the first few hundred miles until they bed in

I have T1Rs on Tinkerbelle.
Never had any tyres quite so sticky!

I run T1R's on my sprint car (as do most of the sprint racers).

I currently have Perelli Rosso's on my Aero (they are absolutely rubbish) and will be swapping to T1R's as soon as I can.

You should optimise the size as well.. the 225 is a bit tight, especially as the Toyo tyres do come up a little on the smaller size..... If they are for a S1 there is some size recommendations on the S1 buyers guide section.

The only comment I have on the Toyo T1R's is that I lean on the tyres pretty hard in corners and at the longer circuits can easily melt the surface of the tyres in a single lap.... The more track oriented tyres will offer more stability in the corners as they have a thicker side wall for lateral stability as well as offering differing compounds..

That said... they will be scary in the wet and will "go off" depending on how many heat cycles you put through them.

In general the Toyo's are a good choice I think they certainly held on well on my old TVR Cerbera GT3 spec road car.

Chaps, a quick recommendation for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta. I run 225 18s on my Aero Series 1, and these tyres are outstanding. Far better than the oriiginal P-Zeros, and better all rounders than the TiR - most notably in the wet.

That said, ny car gets tracked rarely, so I haven't yet tested them on circuit. For road driving, best tyres I have had on the car to date.

They look rather nice too!
