I must be watching in a parallel universe. Enjoyed it. Saw a brilliant drive from Seb Vettel, did not see nor hear any whining from the talented Lewis H and the Five Live commentators never once mentioned any whining, so it's not just me missing something. The new rules have brought speed and the cars look better but yes there is going to be an issue with passing. I guess we can't have it all but guide me to another modern form of (4 wheeled) motorsport that can compare and I will burn my F1 T Shirt and turn my back on the only true contest that sorts the drivers from the wannabes. Is that how one spells wanna-bee? Come on, stop whining, start enjoying!! Auster, Watch the V8 Supercars race at Bathurst. it not only is exciting it sounds like REAL cars

Auster, Watch the V8 Supercars race at Bathurst. it not only is exciting it sounds like REAL cars No doubt about the excitement and hard racing at Bathurst and I have missed it since moving os. But F1 is the only global contest for drivers, designers and manufacturers. In fact add to that strategists, tyre technologists aerodynamicists... What irks me about F1 is that drivers seem to be able to get a seat based on their families/sponsors billions rather than being the best. And if it was a choice between Bathurst and the AGP at Albert Park, you would find me at Bathurst. Or Winton Historic, or Philipp Island, or Goodwood...

Must admit, I started watching the highlights and couldn't be bothered so just turned off I recorded it, watched it Sunday evening and half way through dozed off. Superficially they look better, but the racing isn't good. Why? I suspect it is because the new rules allow the designers to go OTT with "aero", so the cars leave an A380esq hole in the air, making the aerodynamic aids on the following cars virtually useless. This makes overtaking, even with the DRS system, virtually impossible. Stupid. There was a comment by one of the "talking heads" that this was recognised as a possible issue...well it is a real issue. I think we are going to have a tedious season, with wins dependant on qualifying and pit strategy. I don't think I'll watch much of it.

Chaps, I think you know by now that I am a total Ferrari nutter, or perhaps just a nutter?, and all my comments are biased towards the Red Team so my initial post was slanted that way. In general, I can't help but agree with the general sentiment shown here but all the time Ferrari can win I am happy. What would be good is if the new owners of F1 could read this forum to see what the real world thinks of the "sport". It could be so good but all the time the mid field runners are so far behind the big teams, it will never be really interesting. I think the glory days were when nearly everyone had the Cosworth V8. It was then down to the drivers with a bit of help from the engineers but even then you had Chapman with his brilliance starting to change the way the cars were developing.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I reckon, FWIW, that Mercedes gave it away and Ferrari picked it up.
I was getting to the point where I was watching what was going to be a boring procession. There were few contretemps in the opening laps and it was going to follow the formula (no pun intended) to its conclusion.
I was about to have a post-gardening shower.
Then Hamilton pitted, not because he needed to but because the strategy wallahs (SW) told him to.
A few laps later the SW smashed his fist into the deck and the rest is history.
Not a motor race, but reasonable entertainment nonetheless.
Not the sort of thing I would have wished to get up and watch at 3am.

Roll on the British Touring Car races, overtaking and real racing, turned on the end of the F1 highlights and promptly fell asleep.

I am due to meet them at the factory in two weeks time so all I can say is "thank the lords !!".
IT director of the F1 team is a Davide Ferrari (not related) ironically.
If the gods smile I will be getting a little walkabout. He has offered a walk through the "classic" section which is where they rebuild the older models if there is time.
All being well I aim to get a video of the Coupe driving into the factory gates 8)
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
