That sounds like a good discovery Alex and a lot cheaper than some of the other possible causes.

Madness... anyone else come across that level of weighting on plus 8 alloy wheels? Seems like it's compensating for the wheels being out of alignment more than anything...

A rebalance would be interesting to see what weighting it shows. Also an alignment check. Will you get the current weights removed and start from scratch? Best way forward. Modern balancing machines can offer different weighting configurations too, helping manage where the weights go for visual neatness. Keep us updated!

Yes it's booked for tyres, balance and alignment. Will have all the weights removed, have the wheel spun then have it respun with new tire to see where the issues lay. Will update when I get it done... But certainly when people are putting that level of weights on a wheel it's not great.

Similar amount of weight on a couple of my alloys. They are not exactly the best made wheels....I'm considering replacing them with Minilites.

yes Jays it seems there's a definite issue here with those wheels. My father, who has been on spanners since he was 16 is adamant that anything with weights over 20+ is not really fixing the problem which I'd be inclined to agree with. have you found possible wheel suppliers of interest? I'd be keen to see alternatives that aren't astronomical money...

Alex....I'm trying to get a reply from Minilite at the moment. They aren't that good at communicating! I'll post when I get a reply.

I had a problem with My R&P. Too much steering movement. Turns out the R&P pinion gear was not being pushed fully on the rack because the Nylatron follower had seized in the slot. Removed Nylatron follower and filed it a bit so it would push the pinion down for a full mesh. I had help diagnosing this and it took a bit to find the problem/solution. I was forced to remove the R&P so it could be worked on the bench.
According to Darren at New Elms there should be zero play in the steering. They removed the rack and freed off the slipper bush, lubricated and re-assembled. Steering is now very positive. David 2001 4/4 4 seater.

Hi all.
My 96 Plus 8 has always had some play in steering but it seems a little worse now and I think it's related to the speed wobbles I have... I am getting pretty serious vibration at circa 58mph and around 75mph. It makes the wheel judder quite heavily...
Anyone had similar? Found a fix? It's a royal pain that detracts from touring so want to sort...
Check at static (not moving). How much slop do You have in your steering wheel before the front tires move?
