The linking of speeding fines to income is something that the Swiss have been doing for some time, tho I understand that they don't have a ceiling on the fine there. I always drive very circumspectly in Switzerland.
The fact that so many drivers flout the law suggests that the penalties haven't been stiff enough. I'm not claiming to be a Saint in this respect, but I do try to keep to the spirit of the speed limits.

One of the things that attracted me to buying a Morgan was that I didn't need to go particularly fast to enjoy my driving. I don' know if it's just me getting older but I sometimes find it hard to figure out just what the speed limit is on a particular piece of road. I do try to concentrate on the speed limit but these often change on a single stretch of road and can seem to bear no relation to the nature of the risk or environment e.g. Some villages have 40mph limits and some 30mph (and some 50mph). Then there are the 30mph dual carriageways with no footpath alongside and 60mph dual carriageways with a footpath and houses either side. Then there's the stretch of A1 near Biggleswade that randomly goes from 50 to 60 to 70mph for no particular reason. All very confusing. I always take it that unless there are signs to suggest otherwise every so often, the National Speed Limit applies; 30mph in built up areas, 60mph outside and 70mph on dual carriageways etc. Trouble is you do sometimes miss these signs. They'll get me one day I know.

Ditto - The Mercedes had excessive power but was comfortable at lower speeds. The Audi felt like it was unable to stay at sensible speeds every time you touched the accelerator. It was a significant part of the reason to sell it on.
As you say the Mog makes it an event at legal speeds. Love the journey.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

As per Radio 2 today, it won't be long before all cars are fitted with 'black boxes' which record and transmit everything. Cameras will be redundant then.

Morgan will redesign their cars. They will remove gadgets, high tech gizmos etc to make the room available.

The new AMG has a camera that recognises speed limit signs with remarkable accuracy, it is clearly linked to the GPS in some way as when passing a national limit sign the screen first shows a white circle with black bars, it then changes to the limit for the road, 60 or 70. You are right about the illogicality of speed limits in villages: blame the local council! As an example near to me on the A36 the road passes through a village, Plaitford. Part is in Hampshire, part is in Wiltshire. In Hampshire the limit is 40, on the County boundary the limit rises to 50. Go figure.

My Satnavs recognise change of limit - no cameras attached to them...
