Cleaning the car yesterday for the Steam & Classics rally at Haverstreet Station when I discovered: A 35mm crack on the offside wing inboard of the side light, seems to be in line with the edge of the aluminium pad welded on the underside to take the wingstay  According to Gomog this seems to be a common problem. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/superformwingpainting.html#BUBBLINGFirst priority is to stop the crack spreading any further, I cleaned the car just two weeks ago and didn't see any signs of a crack then, since I have only driver around the island on short runs so it has developed quickly. Any advice at this stage before I do anything would be greatly appreciated. David 2001 4/4 4 seater

Cracks can be halted by drilling a small hole at the end/ends of the crack. Are you sure it's a superform wing though? In 2001 it's more likely to be a fabricated wing.

Hi Deano Cracks can be halted by drilling a small hole at the end/ends of the crack. Are you sure it's a superform wing though? In 2001 it's more likely to be a fabricated wing. Thanks, just to clarify according to Charles Morgan & Bowden 'Morgan 100 years' The four seater was the first model after the +8 to be fitted with the superform wings, this was in 1999. David

Superform wings were introduced around 1997. I've not seen a crack there before. The place they can crack is the filler over the welding of the headlight nacelle where there have been a few incidents.

I stand corrected. In my head the superform process was first used on the aero platform. Thanks Jays & David.

I suggest that you check that the wing stay is not loose or broken.

Are you absolutely sure you haven't suffered a stone flinging up under the arch deform the wing? And therefore crack the paint?

Hi John, Mark Thanks for the comments. I suggest that you check that the wing stay is not loose or broken. Everything is very secure underneath, and no apparent damage from flying debris. Will investigate further today, but I think the priority is to drill the holes to stop any further cracking. David

My Plus 4 was one of the cars that had the problem with cracking along the joint between the wing and headlight cowl. It was the joint that cracked and not the aluminium.
From the photograph this looks more like either a fatigue crack or an impact crack. I think I would investigate if this is in the metal or is just the paint before I drilled any holes.
